Painting the Silver Tower

Cross-posted with the Grand Alliance forum, but I thought I would start a log of my Silver Tower minis here as well. I've just got a copy of the game and have played through (and loved) the first trial, and am now cracking on with the models. This Darkoath Chieftan is the first one so far (base not done yet, because I still haven't decided how to approach them).

Nice. Do they fit with Confrontation models from Rackham? Ive read they are bigger than the old GW stuff.

I don't have any Confrontation minis to compare, but head to toe he's about 40mm. GW stuff has got noticeably bigger in the last year or so - the AoS models are much chunkier, and the new Deathwatch space marines are slightly bigger than the standard tactical marines. Still, I love this model - so much character, detailed without being overwhelmingly complicated, dynamic without being over the top.

Yeah, a lot of AoS stuff is freakin' huge.  While GW hovered a long time on the "big 28" (read: 32) scale, the latest stuff is massive.  They counter this by saying that they're from different realms etc., but there are a lot of figures which are completely useless in any other fantasy setting simply due to scale.

That last is the point, right?  Proprietary miniatures.

Here's the second hero figure completed, the Tenebrael Shard (not the best photo, taken on my phone):



I have to admit, this was a real pain to paint for some reason, and I'm not entirely happy with it. Still, I'm cracking on with the Excelsior Warpriest, which I'm much happier with, and will post pics as soon as he's ready!

Thanks, man! I just took the size of two confrontation models, which always annoyed me because they were brilliant but a little bit too big for GW humans. DracMcSyro (=Not-Conan) is 36/37mm from foot to head and a female drune even 38mm. So maybe I should get the set to finally get some stuff for my Confrontation collection to fight with!

I loved painting this model, lots of nice detail without being too overloaded, and I can't get enough of painting cloaks!

I'll admit the heroes do nothing for me, but there are some real gems in the baddies...can't wait till you get to them!

And last of all the Doomseeker (as a Fyreslayers player in Age of Sigmar this was probably my least favourite to paint - I've just done too many of these guys now!)




As ever, the bases are still incomplete because I haven't decided how to approach them yet. Now, onto the denizens of the Silver Tower ...

Magnificent! I really like your approach, and whats worse, Im nearly ready to buy a box of the game...already started to paint Confrontation models again on the weekened!
