New message, message, won't go away

I have a permanent Messages [1] in my top line and get a you've got a message message every time I come on the board.

Any thoughts?

Now at the risk of sounding stupid, did you open your "My Messages" section and read the message in question? It should then be removed as "read".

If you already did check the message, have you tried clearing your browser cache?

Both good suggestions - tried both and still there.

Could there be an older, unread message hiding somewhere "out of sight", such as on the second page?

nope, I've cleared my messages. I wonder if you sent me a test message if it would clear it.

Actually this was clearing away some stuff that came in a set I didn't need!
