OGAM Celt God Models - Advice

Hi all

Bob's little mind is working overtime again... 

I am toying with the idea of building a Celt warband for Of Gods And Mortals, but I am not keen on the official Cernunnos figure from Northstar.

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives? Doesn't have to be Cernunnos, specifically, just any larger figures that would serve as a Celtic deity...

I have a Hasslefree Orion that might work, but he's a bit short. 

Anybody recommend anything in 40mm or even 54mm that might work?

GW did a nice orion in their old wood elf range - "King of the Hunt" or something, probably kicking around on ebay. http://www.coolminiornot.com/107387

A number of the Celt gods are more "heroes" than gods. I use a celtos miniature to represent Lugh. Crom Cruach has been described as a huge maggot or serpent. The large worm from Reaper bones seemed like a nice fit here.

I had forgotten about the GW figure - that might be an option, cheers.

And yeah, I know the Celts went for hero-worship as much as actual deities, but even so if I was going to have a warband lead by Mannannan Mac Lyr or Llugh Llaw Eraint I would want them to be standing at least head and shoulders above the regular warriors.

That's why I'm thinking maybe something in 40mm...??

Monolith/Graven designs do 40mm bronze age Europeans... Some of those might work as giant Celtic heroes?

I use the old the old GW wood elf god mixed with Celtos minis
but I think I need to add that giant to

Well she'd be a bit pricey, but if you want a Celtic goddess then either the old GW Ariel for the Wood Elves, or the new Alarielle from the Wood Elves (Silvaneth or something?) range would be good places to start.

A fimir, or one of the many "not" fimir, would probably make a suitable Balor (in fact I think the fimir are based on Alan Lee's illustration of Balor).

A google searth for "54mm celt miniature" seems to turn up an awful lot, too, so you could look at those as a basis for conversion.

I assume you're familiar with the Alternative Armies Erin range of Celtic myth? The basic models are heroic 28mm but some are bigger:

The range is well worth a look, anyway.

Foundry also did some very heroic Slaine models, though I don't know if they are still available.

I've been using the Celtos figures from Brigade for my celts. This chap makes a less animalistic Cernunnos for example http://brigademodels.co.uk/Celtos/The%20Gaels/CLT-312.html

I'm not sure about the Alternative Armies figures, but will have a better look through their range later on.

The Celtos ones are lovely, and I have a few already, I may use that figure as a Druid as I feel he's not imposing enough for a god.

But that RPE figure is really nice - I am just concerned about the actual size of it as the additional weight and cost may just be down to that whacking great cast metal troll head he's standing on!

If anyone has one of them, could they please let me know how he scales up? I would be very happy with another RPE order as they have so many little gems hidden away in their catalogue...

Right, so just to flatter myself that someone actually cares about what's sloshing round in my head...

I have emailed RPE to ask how big exactly the Nuadha Silverhand figure is, but I also had a wee though about using this figure from Hasslefree:

Second version of Mjolnir Haxlefrei - he's meant to be an Ogre, but I don't see anything too beastly about his appearance, and he has a nice Dark Ages/Celtic look to him. Might leave off the shield...?
