Any plastic Middle Ages cavalry?
« on: 18 November 2016, 06:38:31 PM »
I would like to get some cavalry for my Anglo-Saxon army and I don't see much in the way of plastic. It's so much easier to use than metal.
Does anyone know if the Perry light cav from their war of the roses could work with some head swaps? Maybe a torso change?

Conquest Games plastic Normans are probably your best bet, with head and perhaps shield swaps.

Yeah, the Conquest Normans are a pretty good kit. Just watch out for the seam on the horses neck where it meets the body, that could have been designed better. And if you're fussy, you might need to convert the swords on the models as each warrior has a sword modelled onto him, with the scabbard under the armour as depicted on the Bayeux tapestry, which is great for Normans but not so great for other forces.

Also, head conversions can be a bit tricky if you are thinking f using Gripping beast plastic heads- you will have to sculpt a neck. I have used heads from a number of manufacturers in my conversions- GB, Westwind and WGF- they all need a little TLC to fit right.

Very true! I'm currently working on fitting some West Wind heads to Conquest and Gripping Beast plastics, and there's certainly a bit of work involved to get a natural looking fit.

I believe GB have plastic Late Roman cavalry in the pipeline some which might be okay with different shields.
