Zombie Mall?
« on: November 29, 2016, 08:56:02 PM »
I wached the original 1978 Dawn of the Dead the other day and got to thinking it would be a good game.  I know it was a boardgame long ago.

There's a downloadable version of the original board game on Board Game  Geek. It still plays well today.

Thanks!  I did see that.  Maybe I can combine the two, or use the rules.

I've seen several convention (I think Brit's say 'participation'?) games that used the old electronic Mall Madness game. Give you a floor and raised level around the outside, with aerial walkways to the center where the escalators are.

Interestingly, the escalators came in two versions: the earlier, deep steps, and the later ones that were less than a cm deep.

Zombicide has an expansion called toxic city mall,  but you need one of the first 2 season (core game) boxed sets to use it, so together you are looking at a £100-£130 investment for both depending on where you buy from.
Also a few mdf terrain specialists make nice mall sets... sally 4th make a nice kit that is usable with zombicide (though we're still waiting on the last 2 mall sections from them)
& 4ground has just released a mega pre painted kit, that looks sexy as hell, but is a little on the pricier side.
Only issue with both of these kits is they are both single storey & neither currently has a corner option,  so both can only really be assembled as long straight corridors

I remember a board game from a number of years ago, I think it was called Mall Madness. I had a board that was a mall concourse with 2 levels & a bunch of store fronts, stairs or escalater. I think I might have one stuffed away some where. I came with some plastic shopper figures that were about 30mm tall. Might make a good board for a game like this. I was meant to be a shopping competition game for adolecant girls.

I PM'd this to Herby, and he thought I should share with you all. Remeber, he and I are in the US; don't know if this works for other countries where the game may have been marketed.

...Electronic Mall Madness (funny, I'm not sure there was a non-electronic) and the two kinds of escalators.

If you have a yellow box, or a Hannah Montana version, it'll have tiny steps; the large step ones [boxes] were purple or pink or combinations of those colors. Someone once said 'green', but Ive not seen that box. ['Large' as in large enough for a small coin, not a GW base.]

Of course, one could try to build up the tiny steps to big, but not a conversion that seemed worth the effort.

A friend saw a Battletech arena made from the outer walls, so the yellow box found use in these parts anyway...

If you google 'Electronic Mall Madness' and look at images, I know I found examples.

Edit: Also, failed to point out, the shops at ground level are just facades; except for the skywalks, it's just a single level map that appears multi-level.
