Seen this on Yahoo news. Apparently it cost £6.2 Octillion to run a day!!!!! Although, they seem to firing and recharging the laser every day!

They should've built a Dyson sphere instead, and just get energy from the star within. They would need more material, so the initial outlay would be higher but running costs could be lower - if they used droids to man it with just a core team to manage the place and fire the laser. They could even grow crops on the surface....

Sounds a bit much, as someone calculated the GGP (Gross Galactic product) to be about $4.6 sextillion a year, and the construction cost of the first Death Star as $852 quadrillion (all in 2012 Dollars)
