Tudor / French Lion Rampant AAR
« on: 18 December 2016, 01:05:29 PM »
Hello all

I've been meddling with the lion rampant rules to bring it into the early Renaissance, here's the results;

Sadly the photographs I have are too big to give a taster so you'll have to have a look at the blog  ::)

This looks like a beautiful game :)

I used Lion Rampant very successfully for Agincourt and Murten (Morat).  I really like the rules.

Did you have to change any LR rules or create new troop types?

Regards

Mick

That's just as how I remembered it happening, though clearly for political purposes you have down played my excellent Tudor generalship ;)
Real privilege to play with such excellent terrain and troops matey, beats my green oil cloth covered table into a cocked hat lol.

Excellent looking game!

I like those really thick hedges. Are they smaller individually based pieces built up with lots of loose lichen? Works well!

Mick yes there were a few new troop types, basically slight variations on the essentials to create standard (shire) and more professional (garrison) bow and bill which seemed to work rather well.

Also Landsknecht and other shot was a good addition and though they didn't get that much into the action in this game they were a force to be wary of. The Gendarmes I think were almost straight copies of knights though I tweaked them slightly by making them move on a 7+ but wild charge on a 5+ so they were very much like their historical counterparts.

We also experimented with artillery which still needs some attention so watch this space. It was good fun to umpire and Keith & Jeff certainly took to it with spirit though that might have been the mince pies  ;D

Charlie yes they're hedges on bases of my own making with lichen and other bits of scrub added to make them more impenetrable.

Jeff what can I say haha, Keith certainly made you earn your victory and in hindsight playing lengthways could have made for an interesting alternative.

Great photos and write up on the blog Stuart  :-* I think you very kindly made the result sound closer than it was though  lol
Cheers

Superb! This period is not often played but could be promising. :)

About pursuit and fugitives, there's an historical event which is not well known but could give ideas for other scenarios: in 1522 soldiers from an English fleet attacked Morlaix (Brittany) and pillaged a part of the town. Some of these attackers found many barrels of wine... and they stayed in a wood near the coast for the night instead or going back to their ships. Breton/French troops found them there in the morning...

Thanks all

Patrice coincidentally I've just been reading about the rather gruesome raid on Morlaix and the destruction of Lezireur Chateau, I'll have to visit one day.
