Tin shed's Build something, Ether Flyer
« on: January 03, 2017, 02:48:06 PM »
It probably should named Tin shed shoots himself in the foot before he's even started.

This is something I've toyed with building and now I've got the perfect excuse.
I'm aiming (just for the giggles) to only go- re cycled/ upcycled from the old blue bin.
I've absolutely no idea if I'll manage to complete it in six weeks. But regardless of this I'm still daft enough to still be in. So here we go!

Until I mention.in 28mm ,with interior as I'm doing a wish list project( more to see if I can,If I played safe I'd end up dropping out because I'd get sidetracked thinking I'd plenty of time. Plus I'm an idiot.)

The sketch isn't one of mine its from Space 1889.

I've made a start on the solar boiler as it seemed the logical starting point.
The boiler is in need of a stand/frame.The whole thing still requires detailing. But its a start at least.
The photograph is a bit iffy as I'm working under energy efficient bulbs,From a tray on my knee, watching TV,and not in my workshop. As I'm intent on keeping this whole thing as low tech and as separate as possible from work.

.I've been plodding along and enjoying watching everyone else's progress, and its just dawned on me I should have been posting my own progress!
Just to give a sense of scale I've popped in a 28mm figure.

That's phenomenal! :o I love the rivet count! :-* What's your secret for your rivets?

It might be worth watching. I don't want you in trouble but, I don't think you're supposed to show part painted stuff buddy!

The build threads of the entrants should include as many progress shots as possible, including sketches but no photos of the finished entry should be posted on the thread. Painting in progress is not allowed, only primed entries are permissible on the build threads if you are unsure then please ask.

cheers

James

Bloody hell - that gantry looks like it's hewn from steel!
I love the 'weight' of the riveting - what are you using?

I'd like to make a bridge like eventually.

I'm sure Mr Shed will confirm/deny, but I think the deck (assuming you mean the deck) is textured card, looking at how the shadows lie. Not sure how that would be treated under the painting rules...

The rivets, on the other hand o_o

I have painted the flooring simply because there's no other way of constructing the interior that would allow for a complete build then paint every under cut.
It didn't occur to me that it would be an issue as its an early construction stage expediency not a partial painting of completed build.I personally always paint the cockpit detailing before construction on any aircraft model.I would have thought most people do.As a fair few people are building aircraft. I think you raise a fair point as there will be other pictures popping up as people build ( all be it not a 47.5cm long cockpit space.)So when James is back off his break .He can make a judgement.
If its not in the spirit of the build. Then I'll happily with draw.
As I mentioned at the start this is for my personal use.So I'll be finishing it either way,and if its still of interest to people . I'd post its own thread and be content as I'd still have a two and half foot steam powered VSF spaceship  model and no idea how to store it!
Rich the rivets are just nail art beads you can get them from 1mm - 3mm.I bought 1800 1.5 mm for 3.59 including postage.( I'm not sure that's going to be enough)

Mark.
