lol he always has a spreadsheet...

 lol lol

Steve: I see the order that you have planned the sculpt and it may be easier to sculpt from the 'bottom up'.
Legs, for example, will be easier to sculpt if you start with claws and work your way up the leg to allow for overlapping areas.
You may have already worked out a plan, so my comment may just be a load of useless nonsense, of course....

I shall explain  :D

Because of the way I imagine the skin to fold, I'm sculpting it in sections up to the fold lines. With that in mind, I understand what you say about 'bottom up' and overlapping areas (though I tend not to do that anyway, instead usually just going for some key feature!).

However, in this case it's actually necessary to work from top front to body core to bottom back and then finish with the claws, as getting the 'on the ground' pose balanced depends on the weight distribution around the tipping point. That said, it's possible to shift the precise location of the tipping point through the spread (apart) and depth (down) of the claws. Thus following the work order above, the amount of GS used for detailing can be adjusted as I go along, rather than me having to go back and redo sections at the end, which otherwise might be necessary to achieve balance. Similarly, leaving the claws until last means that I shouldn't have to adjust or redo them. I bet you wish you hadn't asked now.  :D

:o :o :o

My god, the man has a spreadsheet!

Seriously though, can see that a lot of thought, time and effort is going into your build, and it is certainly paying off Steve.

t's just me but I'd rather bail out of the whole thing than have to run it by a spread sheet. I have enough of that at work.

It's not really a spreadsheet though, just a 'to do by' list  ;) :)

Fair do's, mate.
I thought that you would have reasoned it out.

Whatever you need to do to keep yourself balanced, you do it, sir.

Thanks chaps.  :)

No page 1 Keith but it is an updated iteration  ;)

 ;D ;D ;)

I see what you did there  lol

So I said I wasn't going to post constant updates of the GS progress, partly because I didn't want to spam the board. However, now that I've shared the order of work and if there's an appetite to see the progression then I'm happy to keep posting. I also find it very useful to examine photos of progress (the most views of this thread will be by me).

Anyways, I'm presently ahead of plan as I ended up adding chest muscles, biceps and shoulder blades in a single session.

Now, I am normally not one for "hairy dragons" (cue mother-in-law jokes), but this one is looking seriously impressive already, especially for the pose and proportions. Much looking forward to the finished article.

The scale effect looks the business - am sure it will paint up really well.

I wasn't going to post constant updates of the GS progress, partly because I didn't want to spam the board. However, now that I've shared the order of work and if there's an appetite to see the progression then I'm happy to keep posting.

In that case, I guess I'm probably guilty of spamming the board, but Mr Bibbily did say he wanted lots of progress shots.

Personally, I'm really enjoying seeing your progress, so please keep posting updates.

I also find it very useful to examine photos of progress (the most views of this thread will be by me).

Again, I'm the same - I keep referring back to the reference shots on my thread, so I daresay at least half the "views" on my thread are probably me.

 :)

Post as many photos as possible:
The build threads of the entrants should include as many progress shots as possible, including sketches but no photos of the finished entry should be posted on the thread. Painting in progress is not allowed, only primed entries are permissible on the build threads if you are unsure then please ask.

Thanks very much Chris, Ray, Steve, Matt and Karsten.  :D

The skin texturing is surprisingly easy and, yes, I'm hoping will take paint well. With any luck the raised areas of the scales will pop.

I reckon over half of the views on here must be me, too. lol

Excellent reminders of and link to The Bibbles words: henceforth,  I shall fearlessly and gratuitously load images with manic abandon!  ;)

And "if you are unsure then please ask." (note the passive-agressive Notherner bolding used). :D

Edit: it's almost like we know that he's away for a few days.
