Kits that mix well and that fit Frostgrave?
« on: 18 January 2017, 07:50:13 AM »
While the last thing I truly need is another pile of unpainted plastic, I've nevertheless been thinking about constructing a Frostgrave band or two.

Now, I'm aware of the official Frostgrave plastic kits: both the basic soldiers and the cultists, that are made to be mixed and matched for a large variety of configurations.

But now I'm wondering what other kits are out there that mix well with both of the official kits to further expand the number of total configurations. What's available? For instance, how well do the Perry kits fit?

I've mixed the Frostgrave plastics with Fireforge and Gripping Beast plastics with very little effort.

I've picked up some Perry brothers plastic foot knights that break down pretty much the same as the official frostgrave stuff and should mix and match well. Not had chance to do anything with them yet, too busy making terrain...

Thanks for the recommendation!

Any particular kits you'd recommend?

I've had a look at them, and they do look nice!

I've used Fireforge Mongol steppe infantry and Medieval foot sergeants, plus Gripping Beast Vikings.

Fireforge Crusade stuff works pretty well, Perry 100 year work really well, as do GB Dark Age kits. I've used all of those. The Perry kits are to slender to mix well on the Barbarian bodies though.

I've also used Warlord Zulus and Celts, but they may take a bit more cutting and some greenstuff.

I used Black Tree Design to bulk out a lot of my warbands. They have a good range of figures and they're always on sale.

Also, 2nd hand Games Workshop can be picked up cheaply from ebay.

I keep meaning to mix my frostgrave stuff with wargames factory orcs. Need to see how they look.

Thanks for the sweet recommendations!

Are there any good one-stop-shops for these kits? I'd rather like to keep shipping down if I can.

I've made good use out of an old Games Workshop "Empire Militia" kit I picked up at a flea market.  Also, used some figures and bits from a basic Wood Elf (Glade Guard?) box.

If you want Swedish shops, I'd recommend AlphaSpel. I also often order from Firestorm Games in the UK.

Tack!  ;)

I see that Bad Squido Games/The Dice Bag Lady/Annie sells pretty much all the kits that have been mentioned in this thread. She seems really cool and I've long wanted to show support, so whenever I get around to it I'll most likely order from her.

Which of the Statuesque Female Heads best fit the previously discussed kits, especially the Frostgrave Soldiers?
