15mm Chechen War project
« on: 24 January 2017, 11:29:32 AM »
After some time away from it, I’ve restarted my Chechen War project. First up, a Russian T-72BM captured and reused by the Chechens.

I used Zvezda’s ‘Hot War’ T-72, with some parts taken from Battlefront’s ‘Team Yankee’ T-72.

As usual, I got a bit carried away with the conversion and remodelled the turret:

I tried out a few new things like assembling a flag and making mud with bicarbonate of soda:

Here is the finished miniature:

You can see the full walk through on my blog: http://www.nerdlard.blogspot.co.uk. Next up, three Chechen ‘White Raven’ tanks. Don’t hold your breath…

Cracking stuff, love the mud work at the front and the graffiti over the ERA 👍🏻

Very nice! Checking your blog - lots of nice terrain and vehicles for this project, no infantry (you know about the Eureka range)?

Thanks everyone! I'll be adding more things to this thread as I complete them.

von Lucky, I have quite a bit of infantry – based, undercoated and ready to paint – but I'm dashing off a few vehicles before I tackle the small stuff because they're easy wins.

I gave up on waiting for Eureka to release their Chechens and modern Russians so the first batches of infantry will be from Peter Pig's AK47 range, with a lot of headswaps. Eureka will just have to wait until I've cleared the stuff I've already got...

Here we go again. I've finished three more Chechen tanks to make a platoon of four. Not so much work required this time, except for putting the machine guns in the correct position:

There is a walkthrough of the painting process on my blog here: http://nerdlard.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/three-t-72a-tanks.html

And squillions of pictures of the finished tanks here: http://nerdlard.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/three-t-72a-white-raven-tanks.html.

Next on the painting table is a platoon of Russian T-72BMs with scratchbuilt cage armour:

Thanks, von Lucky. I can't paint clean stuff so weathering everything hides my limitations as a painter...

Are you keeping a blog of your work? I'm always looking for inspiration!

Thanks, folks! The cage armour was a fiddly job but it was worth it to have something unique on the table.

I'm terrible at blogs - but I am sorting out my cave and getting an area that can be quickly set up to take photos.

Good stuff! I don't update my blog very often, but it's worth doing just to remind yourself of how much work you've already done when that lead pile seems overwhelming...

Not too sure why you think that our Chechens aren't released? From memory they have been on our web site since 2013.

Hi Nic – I think there's been a misunderstanding. I started my Chechen war project waaaay back in something like 2009 and IIRC you were doing that '300 Club' thing around that time. I'm old fashioned and I'd rather just see a product put on sale so I can buy it without having to wait for it, so you lost out to Peter Pig that time. Your Chechens and modern Russians are very nice, and I'll be getting some eventually. But I have to wade through painting a hundred other miniatures first...
