Zanzibar Slavers
« on: February 07, 2017, 06:37:35 AM »
The Congo rules has reignited my interest in all things colonial Africa.  I've had this idea, that I saw on this great site, using Perry Sudanese bodies and Zouave arms to make some slavers.  Probably no where near historical but they work just fine for my fictional Africa setting whee they will fight for and against my British, Germans, French and natives.  They are mostly Sudanese bodies with some heads, Zoauve arms and heads, and some Wargames Factory Persians and Numidians thrown in for good measure.  I know that Zanzibari slavers' skin tones vary from "dark African" black to "middle eastern" brown, but I wanted to practice painting this skin tone and see what works and what doesn't.  Besides, I can use them as men who have recently arrived to Africa.

The light is playing tricks on them as they are not as shiny in person.  I really need to learn to take better pictures.
Any C&C is welcome.  Thanks for looking.

Justin

I have been thinking about doing something similar. They looks great.

Those are really nice, they've turned out very well indeed. Nice mixing of parts and good paint job.
I had similar ideas and using bits from Perry Mahdists, GB Arabs, Perry ACW, Perry DAK, WF Numidians, WF Zulu, WG ECW and a bit of green stuff I've turned out an extra Zanzibari unit and some Ruga. Here's a shot of some unpainted Zanzibari, I'll get a couple of shots of some painted examples another time.

pbjunky1, Those look like a nasty group of fellows.  My green stuff skills are non-existent so I had to stick with what looks good.

Looks like a tough crew indeed! Loads of character here.

That's a really clever conversion idea and irrespective of whether or not it is historically correct it looks right :-)

What was your paining technique for the 'dirty' white clothing?

@Ssendam, I mainly used cheep craft paint that I have bought at Michaels.  Basecoat over black, Honey Brown (Americana), Maple Sugar Tan (Delta Ceramacoat), Antique White ( Delata Ceramacoat), the white as a very small final highlight.

Hope this helps.
