Looking for Austro-Prussian War Rules

Looking for a list (yeah, right,) of rules dealing with the Austro-Prussian War (or adaptable to that war.)

Seriously, thinking about yielding to temptation to do this in 1/600 or, more likely, 1/300 scale.

What rules would you use?

This set is still influenced by the Fire and Fury set but with many new ideas.

 

We play both with 6mm and 15mm figures. A unit is 6 to 9 infantry bases with 8 to 10 6mm or 4 15mm. In the first set a unit is a regiment, in the second it is a brigade.

Given your scale why not truly return the game to Prussian roots and use Kriegsspiel.

Bloody Big Battle for me too (after spending years trying to find a set I liked)...perfect for that scale of figures as units are brigades or divisions (in the main).
Ground scale variable according to scenario but generally approximates to 1” = 200 yards
Time scale variable but typically 1 turn = 1 hour
Figure/Base Ratio variable but typically a 1” base = 1000-1500 men or 24-36 guns but some scenarios on the excellent Yahoo group are 500 men a base.

Ordered two books (BBB and its European Wars supplement) without have test played them first.  Unusual move on my part that I hope doesn't disappoint me.

You should not be disappointed, they are a decent set of rules, but (like my preference Volley & Bayonet) are a straight forward generic ruleset with some added flavour. Useful if you also want to look at other conflicts in the era without changing rules.

A better option if you want to capture the specifics of the Austro Prussian conflict would be Bruce Weigle's "1866" from Grand Tactical Games:

Slightly more complex rules but (like his "1870" rulebook) probably the best single volume resource on the conflict.

Having played and loved Pickett's Charge for the ACW I am waiting for David Brown's latest set of Napoleonic rules to come out (to replace General De Brigade). This will let me look at how he handles cavalry, combine the two with adaptions for slightly different weaponry and Bob's your uncle. Pickett's charge is the best set of rules I have come accross for years and I expect his version for the Napoleonic period to be the same, so for me why change a winning formula.

Went a little nuts and ordered all 3 rules sets (2 different sources) as a backup to BBB.

I don't think you will need them as a backup for BBB but it's money well spent just for the information they contain

1870 arrived and read except for the bibliography(!?!) and waiting for the rest of the rules to arrive.
