28/32 mm big robots what's out there?
« on: February 19, 2017, 09:45:48 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm toying with the idea of doing some Adeptus Mechanicus for my ever running 4th edition 40K project it will take a bit of retro fitting but could be fun. Now I want Robots I do like the current GW Kastelan bots but I wanted about 4 which at GW prices is really out of budget.

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Kastelan-Robots

No problem I thought there are bound to be loads of robots out there, I can proxy, but my goggle searches are coming up pretty blank. The only thing I've found so far are the Pig Iron battle droids which are nice and a better price but seem about the size of a GW terminator. So are there any Robots out there that are

Larger than a normal man in 28mm

Not to advanced looking ( being  40K they need to give off an Imperial look rather than Tau look)

priced better than GW

Thanks in advance Jon

VOTOMS kits in 1/60 or 1/48 scale.
Dougram kits in 1/144 scale.
Mantic Games has walkers in their deadzone range that could work as robots... the also have robots in their Dreadball range.
Puppets War have a lot of robots in their various ranges.
Warlord Games Konflict 47 range has some walkers/powered armour that could work as well.
Anvil Industries have a couple of nice robots.
Prodos Games has their Warzone Cybertronic range that is full of robots.
Scotia Grendel has Void and Kryomek which have robots and walkers in them.

Scotia Grendel has the old Kryomek Talos mech units (they are about the size of a terminator, but skinnier and more spindly) and certainly less "shiny nice future" tau robot looking.

For a scifi RPG campaign I was in some years ago, I got a couple of Warmachine Khador Man-O-War models. I took off the obvious smokestacks, left off the shields, added a suitable gun and presto.

They really fit in with anything Grimdark and are a little bigger than your run-of-the-mill Terminator armor to boot.

As far as price is concerned; Privateer Press is not exactly cheaper than GW, but good deals can be had on Ebay every now and then...

With old GW Epic Knights for comparison, this robot is quite big. It's a 1/144 scale Mobile Suit Gundam. Mobile suits in certain series have been quite large. I buy some for 15mm but they tend to look more like they'd suit 20mm, even 28mm.

On the assumption of 'cheap-and-chearful', I was about to suggest used Bionicle, which I see in charity/thrift stores regularly, but those will be rather large.

Another is some of the smaller Mechwarrior, which would still tower, but not so much...

If you aren't picky, they can be not-too-dear, especially if you find a nice pile for sale. You can always dump the vehicles and troops. *hint hint*

there is also old heroscape robots !

*blush* I have a few of those having picked up bits and pieces of old sets strictly for the terrain. And the possibility of Marro as weird VSF opponents. Once again, need a 'facepalm' emoticon.

A bunch of robots from the old "Star Mogul" games and some others just went on KS from Johnnyborg (formerly megamins)  Quite affodable and probably much in line with what you're looking for.
