Not posted any pictures for a while. The safety net at the side was really fiddly and took me a long time to fix in place. But I have now completed that and also managed to finally finish the engines and get them fixed in place. I have also added various details around the thing such as more rivets.

Attached to the engines above the cargo hatch is a crane

The reason for the crane is so that the Aeronef can carry this

Instead of the BRAS.

I am now working on the steering gear.
The first one in place

here are some pictures of the whole thing so far.

Some crew for scale

Things left to do are:-
The rest of the steering gear to finish and more detail to add to the one in place.
I want to add a catwalk along the top of each engine to give access for the crew to the back of the deck.
I have some plastic rod, some beads and some cord to make a railing around the deck.
I have a couple of sky light/hatches to add on the deck behind the engines that are for access to the engine compartment.
Others things left to do are small details such as ladders down to the rear gunner and some storage boxes around the deck. I will also need a flag. Another thing to do is a boarding ramp at the front.
Then tidy up a lot of rough edges and paint.

Give me a break ;)
Still to decide on the colours. Can't decide on whether to go with traditional battleship grey or a more VSF flavour blue.

I have two more Mak's but I havn't decided if I want to convert them the same as this one or use them for something else (pulp robot or WWWII AVF). I am thinking one may be enough at the moment. I am also not sure how powerful it will be in a game, still waiting on the rules (Valour, flesh, steel) from Caliver. I don't want to over balance my small British force before I even start on an enemy force.

Thanks for all the nice comment guys :D
Hopefully I will finish it soon :D

Somebody mentioned it on another thread the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time spent on 20% of the project. That’s where I am now. It took me ages to build the walkways across the top of the steam engines. Very fiddly and my first couple of tries were very fragile, not much use for a wargames model. Hopefully these are a bit sturdier.

Still got some cord to add to the beads to make a rope rail. Got to do the posts and bead thing around the whole deck, then do all the cord in one go.
Finished the rudders at the back as well.

The whole thing so far.
After seeing Thunderchickens Aeronef.

I have decided to go with the dark wood, brass and steel colour scheme, that I think really suits VSF.

Me too!

It's possibly the most quirky, individual and brilliant design for a 'Nef I've ever seen.

Fuzzy's HMES Hermes is a spectacular model, but I reckon you might just out-do him.

No pressure, then  lol

More or less finished the build now.

Finished off tidying up the ends of the safety net.

Built a couple of hatches for access to the engine room

Built a gangway at the front

In

out

More rivets added to various places

Then built and threaded the rail

So at last the completed build DAH DAH

I have now started the paint.
One hint, if you are ever going to be as silly as me and build something like this. Paint the area before you cover the whole side of the lower deck in netting. It is impossible to paint! :'(

Sorry for the quality of the last few pictures, they are a bit dark.

I am hoping to finish the painting this week, along with texturing and painting the base.
No doubt I will have to fix various bits as I break them, while handling it to paint. :'(
So far I have broken the rail, twice and part of the crane fell off when I turned it upside down. I also managed to loose the gatling gun for about 10 mins when it fell on the floor. :'(
Then it’s on to painting the crew.
I have had enough of scratch building for a while. ;D

Well, if you stop now, you can retire on a massive high! I use the word 'awesome' a lot, not because I don't know any others, but because a lot of things provoke awe in me - and this is one of them. It's absolutely beautiful, your attention to detail is exemplary, I am quite seriously in awe of the work and imagination that has gone into this.

It was projects like this that got me coming to LAF, and this will be a source of inspiration for me for a long time to come as I begin building my own airships and 'nefs. Great work.
