War of the Worlds - Aeronef style
« on: September 18, 2023, 03:38:47 AM »
Our gaming group recently put on a game that I had been wanting to do for some time - namely a Martian invasion game with flying airships (Aeronefs) and steam tanks on the human side.  The scenario was that the Martians (me) were attacking the Bavarian village of Beerburgen to capture the St. Pauli girls and the Imperial German Sky Fleet showed up to contest my plans.  The game began when the Martian fleet entered the board from the opposite side from the village while three landing forces were randomly placed near the village.  The German fleet was split into two squadrons and advanced against the Martian mothership and it's escorts while a local defense force consisting of several steam tanks and a few ground attack aircraft engaged the Martian landers.  At first the Martians superior firepower gave them the advantage but eventually numbers and Leadfools exceptionally lucky dice rolls (with my dice no less!) turned the tide and the surviving Martians (one small ship) were driven from the field but not before inflicting some serious losses on the humans.  Fun game and it is just begging for a rematch.

It was a great game played at our local game store "Great Escape Games" in Sacramento CA.
The rules were a cross between Aeronef and Land Ironclads both by Wessex games.

Most of the Prussian Zepplin fleet was destroyed and several of the other vessels were damaged.  One steam tank was destroyed. and several damaged.  Mt dice rolling was unusually lucky.  And Number told over the quality of the Martians.

It was a fun game. Who knew biplanes could do a trench run on a flying saucer? (That would be Leadfool rolling a whole handful of 6s with Mikos’ dice.)

It wasn't a handful of 6's, it was the one six several times in a row.

Great looking game, well done!

The aircraft stands are not my cup of tea but the rest is jolly good…
