I watched the Talons of Weng Chiang  from Doctor Who, the fourth doctor. Magnificent episode. Picked up the Doctor and the Villains from Black tree, painted some bobbies and it started steam rolling

Space 1889, loved all the stuff connected to it.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

originally a rpg, I think, about colonizing Mars in 1889, it then evolved into a table top miniature war game.

Space 1889 is what.

'is what' is what I think is his answer to the question, not another question to be answered...  lol

Have to admit, I'm a bit surprised Space 1889 has had such an influence on so many of us.

My grandfather liked to watch war movies, so I like to watch war movies.  When I saw Zulu Dawn in my pre-teens, I was hooked on wargaming and knew I wanted to know more.  A few years later, at 16, I was part of a wonderful games group with many, many talented folks that played everything under the sun, and many home brew rules.  Space 1889 was usually on offer and then I was able to connect the pageantry of Zulu Dawn with the flight of fancy I also loved, a perfect marriage.

Two of my favourites, although not strictly VSF but definitely (for me anyway) has the right feel when its in Grand Fenwick. The mouse that Roared, and more so A mouse on the Moon. The Grand Fenwick rocket that has a lovely space 1889 feel to it.

History buff.Always into daring do and boys own stuff. Retired from re-enactment as too old to sleep on the ground after shows in all weathers. So retired to gaming, tired AVBCW got my figures burnt, stumbled on Space 1889 just before that and have never looked back since. But its taken over my life a bit ;)

I probably should not be surprised by the influences from Space:1889 but I guess I am - just wasn't one of the main influences for me as other sources.

Edit: I still have all the PDFs though! lol

GASLIGHT game at a con I was hooked. I already had a bunch of 25mm ACW soldiers, cavalry and cannons so all I needed was some steam-powered vehicles. Now I have more Landships home-made and commercial than I could ever field at any single game.  lol lol lol

Firstly an interest in the local wars of the 1860's, then Zulu got me further afield into the rest of the Empire, then like many others here Space 1889 got its hooks into me.
I'm not a mercenary. Killing's more of a hobby for me.
