Hi LAFers,

I was browsing the web and I stumbled across the site, Greenstuff World.

Has anyone had any experience with their textured rolling pins?  (http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/22-textured-rolling-pins)

I have been using Happy Seppuku stamps for a while but these rollers look intriguing. They may not offer as much variety as Happy S stamps, but I like some of the patterns.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks for the replies!

I got some recently and have liked them. I agree some patterns are so-so but they work well. You may want to consider getting the silicone rings to put on the ends to keep it level. That was my problem... I found if I did not press evenly part of the pattern would be too shallow.

Which patterns are you considering?

Hi Timbor,

There are several that am eyeing:
The Mesh Roller
The Factory Ground Roller
and possibly the Triple Hex Roller

I want to base some Tau on a base that could look like the interior of a Tau ship, and I think I can do something with these.

I have eight of them.   Fairly nice effects if you add more details on top.   There is a bit of a learning curve when you use different putties.  Generally I use the following for each.
Green stuff/brown stuff:  Vaseline
Milliput/Magic Sculp/Procrete:  Talcum powder
Fymo/sculpy:  Doesn't seem to need it.
The trick is to get a level surface on the putty.  As mentioned the rings will definitely help.  You can use one of their flat rolling pin or a regular baking pin to level the surface.
Here are a couple of examples.

On this image you can what happens on an uneven surface.

To address your concerns about the pattern repeating, it can.  If you move and rotate the roller every time you roll a base this will alleviate that problem.  I can say the service from them was top notch and I am happy with every product that I have purchased form their site.
Hope that helps.

I have the mesh and factory rollers and I really like them. The Aztec one is my favourite.

Thank you for the photos and the replies!

@ Timbor - Do you have any photos of the bases you made with the mesh and factory rollers?

@ Snitcythedog - I never thought of using talcum powder with Milliput, I've always used a bit of water when using the Happy Seppuku stamps. Does the powder work better?

Much.  The suggestion was originally from Connectamabob.  The powder stops almost all of the sticking problems from the water soluble putties.  The other nice thing is cleanup of the part is pretty easy.  Dust it off and your done.  One other thing.  The factory floor roller is one of his early rollers and the details are a little soft IMO though I still use it.  The new ones are all spot on.

They look good. In one example they mix plasticine with green stuff - does that dry hard?

Will they have distributors at Salute next month?

I do not know.  My concern with that is plasticine contains oil and I do not know if that will leach out into your paint later.  Might be worth a test.

Not on the list but anything is possible.

We use the rollers with DAS modelling clay
Look on our Victorian Steel photo gallery at the Road sections of the terrain board using the cobblestone and stone wall rollers
