Mordheim...oh dear.
« on: March 21, 2017, 07:24:03 PM »
So, someone mentioned Mordheim and a week later I had a table built...(a lot more "fluff" to come but the basic elements are done).

All hand built (with the use of some plastic sheet rocks, etc.).  Intended for modularity, playability and delivering the Mordheim aesthetic.  Will be adding a bunch to the table, but it's playable as-is.  Now if only I had some warbands painted.

OUTSTANDING! Your gaming set up is BEAUTIFULLY crafted & painted. There is nothing quite like swashbuckling at dizzying heights. VERY WELL DONE!

Nice work.  That'd serve nicely for all sorts of small skirmish gaming and roleplaying uses beyond Mordheim, too.

Thanks, fellas.

The materials used:

1.5 sheets of foam-core (foam-board?)
25-30' of wood dowels (the squared ones you can find at hobby shops)
600-700 coffee stirrers
1x sheet of roof tiled plasticard
2x sheet of random rock pattern plasticard (just stuff I had laying around)
1x bottle of Elmer's Wood Glue Max (the best stuff)
A bit of brass wire (for the rotating bridge and the draw bridge bit)
Package of metal washers (inside most of the structures - drowned in wood glue to provide a weighted base)
A few craft paints
2x cans of dark brown primer (Krylon)
Some hobby bricks (not sure what brand - but scaled for 28mm)
Some army painter grass tufts

The little arched roofs come off for accessibility and every ledge/plank/area was carefully designed to accommodate 25-30mm bases or up to 40mm in some cases.  Heights are 3" for the first level and 6" for the second (minor variations but trying to keep it minimal).  Also tried to keep all the ladders one level or 2.5-3" so most characters can get up them in one turn.

I plan on doing a full blog post sometime soon, and I'll add it when I do!

Ah! Love it!

Modular Mordheim!

Brilliant idea and execution. The paint jobs are quite eye catching as well.

Looks like a wonderful gaming set.

Very nice!  Hopefully your players will move off of the ground floor.  The steps should certainly encourage them.

Mordheim remains my favorite miniatures game to date.

Just put some of the wyrdstone up there...like doggie treats.  lol  (that and I've planned to have a water-based map where these pieces are suspended over water, meaning you have to use certain walkways).

Goodness me, those look absolutely wonderful:-*

I also like that there are plenty of solid areas, and that the elevated spaces are big enough to encourage some action up there.

Although I'm certainly preaching to the choir here, I would highly suggest making generous handful of loose free-standing ladders and maybe a small number of staircases too - the more access to/from the elevated areas, the less of a "trap" they'll feel to players.

Can't wait to see these on a suitable baseboard with models fighting over them.  :D
