Scratch built spaceships
« on: 25 March 2017, 09:17:02 AM »
One of the most enjoyable tabletop games I've ever played was Full Thrust (and not just for the suggestive title) So I wanted to put together my own fleets for use in such a game. I also wanted to make it difficult for myself, naturally.  :D

Most of these spaceships models were put together with random kits people had kindly donated or random stuff I had languishing in the bits box. Although in the case of the Dark Eldar stuff that was brought from a bits shop.

Haven't finished putting together everything and there's loads of eldar heavy weapons and platforms that aren't shown as I haven't really done much with them yet. They'll make great spaceships though.

Federation;

Pointitrons? Gromulans? Klingonians? Who cares? ;

Random tranpsorts, Scrapper destroyers, pleasure barges, space cities;

Noticed there was a chap fishing about for plastic fleets and such. Guess I just wanted to show you can scratch build ships out of anything. Not that I'd want to take orders away from companies that sell spaceships.

What a wonderful selection.

The Mat Irvine award goes to the ships based on Panzer turrets.

The man is an inspiration for all scratchers.  :)

Nice work.  No biotech ships built out of Tyranid parts, though?  Pity.  :)

Who is Mat Irvine?

He was the special effects guy and model maker who scratch-built all the spaceships and props for BBCTV series in the 70s - and often as not, blew them up too!  Dr Who, Blake's 7... and he sometimes appeared on a kids' general interest programme called Blue Peter to show us how to build our own.

He is an inspiration to a generation of now-balding SF fans and model-makers.

Bergil - bloody brilliant!

Quick question - what are you using for the lower hulls for the Federation ships?

The slightly longer ones with thinner engine nacelles used missile pods from a cheap aircraft kit. The slightly bulkier ones used fuel tanks, possibly from the same kit. I can't be sure though!

I have a ton of those Tau parts waiting work, though the 'guns' may end up being hulls of their own.

Handsome work altogether!

I'm an FT fanboy since the late 90's, but I was thinking the drones MIGHT make some variations on one War Rocket faction.  ;)

Now, FT has bio. You know you will. Maybe a 'nid version of Phalons? lol
