Putting together a pirate sourcebook
« on: 26 March 2017, 09:32:52 PM »
I was on holiday lately, and had plenty of time to cook up mad new ideas. I decided to start writing a small sourcebook for pirate gaming, based on my pirate miniatures and games played using them. It will detail a fictitious but historically plausible town and its colourful inhabitants in the West Indies in the early 1700s. The idea is for the book to be system neutral, providing hooks, characters and ideas for both wargaming and role-playing games. Entertaining and Hollywood-y, yet firmly grounded in history for the most part. Not brimming with intricate detail, but rather something to boost the imagination, with plenty of opportunity to fill in the blanks as you like.

Now, this will be a pet project that might go on for all eternity, and things like this are fun to share! So, if you fancy a look at what might be in store, have a look at a draft of the first character - the pirate queen Maricruz Aguilera de Cartagena.

Your feedback is most welcome, either here or in the blog comments!

Sounds like a fun project, and I enjoyed the initial write-up.  She probably read too many novels.  That'll do it every time.

Here's the first illustration that I commissioned, for the pirate queen character mentioned previously. Artwork by the brilliant Gabriella "Sayara-S" Bujdosó.

Slowly but surely work on this continues! Here's the latest character, the charismatic leader of a band of maroons.

I like very much the idea, eager to see more, thumbs up!
And the sketches are very atmospheric!
