Crimson Skies - Sworn enemies
« on: 09 April 2017, 08:28:01 PM »
Man, these planes are way easier than BB players. They were soooo much fun to paint.

The silver one is a Me108 (plane exists in the Canon, but no stats) from the Iron Eagles, a ISA militia.

The other is a Defender from the 368th Alaskan Guard Squadron, red Russians operating in the PC.

Nostalgic.  Always really wanted to like Crimson Skies, both for its nutty setting and for the rules similarities to Renegade Legion games.  Never quite worked for me, though.  Just didn't ever feel right while playing.

Nice work. Tiny planes are satisfying.

Thanks.

Even with all its problems (damage phase, do you have a hour?) Crimson Skies remains one of my favorite wargame. Just the fact that move are simultaneous makes it complex and requires you to gamble, anticipate and plan a lot.

I used to play CS over a long period, but I admit that I put it away in favour of X-Wing. However I still love the little planes, the background and will play it again someday!  :D

Here“s my attempt at a unique ISA painting scheme (Greenbay Packers that is...):

I remember those!

Although a ISA defender? ;)

Very nice paint scheme, mine are more suited to my limited talent.

Ran a campaign back in the day. Not a bad game, but the extra range on the lighter guns did little good. I rarely saw anyone liner up a hex-line shot at more than 3 hexes range.

I am still wondering if someone would adapt it to Bag the Hun. Meantime there's Crimson Eagles?
NOT buying a 28mm WW2 army for the foreseeable. Deal with it.

In my experience, the sweet spot is 5 Hexes (.50 guns), however, I've seen lucky .30 MG shot ruin a pilot's day.

Crimson Skies is all in all a surprisingly balanced game in my experience compared to Battletech and the various GW games.

I do not know these games but IMHO Check your 6s is the best bet to get a more realistic set of rules.
