Unity space is vast and technological levels varies greatly. On one world, agricultural work is hard, done by hand, aided only by domesticated animals, while on another world, everything from pollination to plowing is done by autonomous machines. Cybernetic implants and enhancements can be found on all but the most primitive worlds. Depending on level of technology, these ranges from basic implants replacing lost limbs to more advanced enhancing strength, reflexes or cognitive functions. Sophistication and neural integration facilitates what impact the cybernetic implants have on the implantees personality and functioning: too many, too intrusive and/or too crude implants may lead to COS (Cybernetic Overload Syndrome).

Crimson Reavers' hacker extraordinaire, Becky Billions, is easy to spot in a crowd. She wears a black trenchcoat, sports a large, crimson mohawk and wields twin Scorpion autopistols. Her most distinct feature though, is the massive cybernetic implant on the side of her head. Back at Gibson's World, where she originally came from, this was the most advanced cybernetic enhancement ever made. Being able to make billions of computations every second elevated Becky way above the other hackers, but it also made her a target of both government agencies and criminal syndicates. Becky decided to leave her homeworld after narrowly escaping the twelfth attempt on her life and after doing some contract work across the galaxy, she finally joined the Crimson Reavers.

Your character building and the background stories are really giving this thread a unique edge. And of course the fantastic paintjobs are delightful to look at!

Thank you, it's feedback like that that keeps me going :)

This paintjob is a bit rougher than I tried for. I finally realised that painting 10 cm from a halogen light dries the paint on the brush...

I'm using the basics from Five Parsecs from Home, adding my own ideas and inspiration.

The main idea with my setting is that humanity has gone through three phases of expansion:

1. The first expansion used generational spacetravel at first and later CTL (close to light speed). Expansion was slow.

2. Humanity encountered alien species during their expansions. One of these offered a method of travel which was next to instanteneous, although the engines were locked and the aliens controlled every single travel (and debited the human government). Expansion went fast and humanity spread across the stars. Some of the more important worlds installed ansibles to be able to communicate instantly (although they were extremely expensive).
Humanity relied on the instanteneous travel, but the alien species controlling it disappeared suddenly, separating the human worlds from each other for millennia.

3. Worlds close to each other banded together, humanity went back to CTL and generational ships as the means of interstellar travel, until the Svensen Drive was discovered and humanity could yet again be united. My games will be set about a century and a half after the start of the third expansion

I never meant to create a crew with a backstory, I was just going to paint some generic pirate scum/criminals for my Five Parsecs from Home games...

Anyway, here are the Crimson Reavers (of course not all of them, it takes a lot more crew to man a pirate ship)!

About my backstory:
I wanted a way to explain divergent development across the galaxy, while still spreading humanity across most of known space. Also, since my first RPG experience was with the Swedish game Mutant 2089 (which evolved into Mutant: RYMD (=SPACE), which evolved into Mutant Chronicles) I wanted worlds devastated by nuclear war, enormous high-tech cities with cyberpunk vibes and lots and lots of evil corporations with corporate armies . I think that wouldn't be possible with a present galactic government.

Thank you, Florian! I enjoy your threads as well!

Thanks Jagannath, I tried to keep a somewhat cohesive colour scheme, using crimson red somewhere on each model (and trying to limit the palette to brown, grey, black and white on clothing and accessories).

Very lovely gang of rascals! Great job with the red, I can never get it quite right.

Good world building too.

Thanks, Dr De'Ath, it looks a lot better! How's Sandport faring?

Very lovely gang of rascals! Great job with the red, I can never get it quite right.

Good world building too.

Thank you, Grumbledook!

The recipe for red is: grey primer, crimson gore basecoat, army painter strong tone wash, crimson gore highlights followed by crimson gore + blood red highlights and finished with extreme highlights in pure blood red.
