[AGOT] Wargaming Robert's Rebellion
« on: 17 April 2017, 05:32:07 AM »
This project is gonna be a slow burn, since I have a million other things on the go, but anyway...

A friend recently introduced me to Lion/Dragon Rampant, and they're pretty awesome. Since I've long wanted to go a Westeros themed force, partially inspired by the many excellent blogs right here, I figured this would be the perfect chance to use a few boxes of Perry minis I had lying around!

So here is the first unit, some Baratheon spear sergeants, ready to join in Robert's rebellion and topple the Mad King. I'm setting the force during the Rebellion since that lets me field a more interesting selection of houses and troops, as opposed to the War of the Five Kings which was mostly decided off the battlefield and featured less diverse forces.
I've used the uniforms worn in the TV show as a guide, and kept the colours fairly muted. The main thing I will be using to differentiate each house will be helmet types, since those seem the major way the show differentiates them, each house seems to have a predominant style of helmet.

These guys are pretty rough and ready, just tabletop standard, about 30-40mins per dude. I'm still working on the Ser to lead the squad, he'll hopefully be done soon.

Next up will be some Baratheon crossbows, then maybe some Vale troops.

They do look really nice. Love the look of a nicely based unit on regimental base like that. Also great fun to see some Baratheons and some other characters!

A wonderful new addition to our league of GoT / ASoIaF projects!

Well done and welcome to the gang!!  Looking forward to seeing more as you can get to it.

Thanks for the kind words guys, much appreciated :)

Painted up the next Baratheon unit over the weekend. Nothing fancy, more quick and dirty paintjobs, but they'll do the job on the table at least. I'm trying to avoid spending too long on these guys, most of my projects end up languishing too long because I devote hours to a single model. Batch painting to tabletop standard is the aim for these, even though the minis are really nice and I'm not doing them proper justice. I will spend a bit longer when I paint up some knights and such.

These crossbowmen are in service to House Buckler of Bronzegate, hence they fly the house colours, along with a Baratheon sigil, simple stag horns rather than the full heraldic stag.

They are looking really nice! I hope we see more, sonn ;)

What colors are you using for the yellow coat-of-arms? I find it really hard to find a good yellow ...
