Farouk the Trader (Asar Spy)
« on: March 09, 2009, 01:11:45 PM »
I thought folks here might like to see this fellow...

I painted him up in a marathon painting session yesterday to use as my character in the Broadsword Adventure PBEM game starting up now over on the Rattrap forum.

The figure is an Asar Spy from Crocodile Games (but I calls him "Farouk the Trader").

I'm always interested in how people handle skin tones myself, so I'm happy to share  ;)

For the most part, this figure was done using the Foundry paint system. I wrote up a little tutorial about how I do this and posted it over at the Battle Glade Forum (a Warhammer Wood Elf website) here:

http://battleglade.freeforums.org/wip-wardancers-t129.html

For this figure, I wanted him to be a little swarthier than my standard pallid Elves, so after the base coat, I gave the flesh a wash with a mixture of Citadel Chestnut ink, Citadel Purple Ink and the new Citadel Ogryn Flesh wash. Then I added a mix of the Foundry base shade and the Foundry mid-tone, and finally I used the Foundry Mid-tone by itself for the highlight. Note that I don't like to use the Foundry Dark Flesh triad as this doesn't produce a realistic human skin tone IMHO (I use it for leathers instead).

A member of Macharia's Battle Glade, eh? I remember that place from my time in Earl Cadfael's Bretonnian forum a long time ago.

Anyway, the miniature is great, and looks absolutely perfect for the setting. But he'll have to look out for my characters, who are a pair of thieves ;)

Strictly entre nous, mine is a thief too, he just doesn't announce the fact... ::)

I wanted to play a Master Thief character, but there wasn't one available (until you get around to publishing the rules you're writing) so I created my own using the Level 3 Prelate as a template and then adding an appropriate mix of skills.

Shoot me a pm on the Rattrap forum if you want to make common cause...  ;)

Am I going to be surrounded by thieves in  the PBEM? It's a good job there's an honest murdering swine like mine amongst the characters to add a little decency to the proceedings!  ;)
I don't know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.

We do seem to have an eclectic mix of interesting character types. I for one am thankful that we have at least one honest murdering swine amongst us. Rich kept dropping very broad hints that we shouldn't all go super combat-optimized and I think a lot of us responded accordingly...
