Converting the "Cobra Gunship" for 28mm Sci-fi games.
« on: July 08, 2010, 03:34:41 PM »
Hey guys after seeing another thread in the future wars section showing off the "Cobra Gunship" I decided to pick one up and convert it for 28mm figs.

Here are the results of the conversion.

The last couple post on my blog show the steps in more detail.

Still looks like a bigger scaled toy there mate sorry. It's the cockpit glass, it's just too out of scale to be 28mm, that's not your fault, just a fact of life.

Not sure about the use of the platformer bits for that extended ramp, looks a litt too kitbashed.

Nice minis though, any closeups?

Does this make it easier to understand what I was going for?  The paint is just ruffed in for the moment.  I just wanted to show how I handled changing the scale of the cockpit.

I've got the interior bits almost painted.  After that I'll put the whole thing together before I paint the exterior.  I'm sure I'll post a shot when I get to that stage.

Also I've decided I'm going to make a new ramp.  That one won't fit in the hold so I'm going to make a shorter one.  I may not make it until after I finish the model though.

Ok here is a shot of the painted interior and ramps.  You can also see the engine detailing I did.  The cockpit still isn't finished but I really only painted it this far to show where it is.

There are more pictures on my blog.

Now comes that hard part.  Painting and detailing the exterior.

Big fan of your blog and glad you're back at it!  I really like the progress you're making on the gunship.  I was actually looking at some G.I. Joe vehicles today with an eye towards 28mm gaming.  What else do you have in the works?

I did a basic paintjob on the ships hull tonight.  I still have a ton of detailing and weathering to do.  I'm happy so far.

Yes, fantastic job! The basic lines of the Cobra have been well disguised and it looks perfect as a sci-fi gunship/dropship.

Definitely an idea worth looking at  :D

That really looks excellent, perfect for a good dropship. I find it difficult finding stuff that I can see a new model in, but you seem to churn them out like there's no tomorrow!

Looking really nice.  This particular gunship is currently on clearance at Target for $17.42.  I had to resist the urge to pick up two!
