Indian Mutiny Game at Bickley Towers
« on: June 03, 2011, 01:30:00 PM »
Well, I have had the good fortune to have an invite back to Bickley Towers for a game.  I got to see a "work in progress" version of his Indian Mutiny rules and play a game on his wonderful table and his marvelous figures.

So to the game:

The forces of General Horatio Bickleigh:

The forces of The Nabob of Nham:

Some in game shots:

Oh, the result?  Well here is the end of game shot:

The chaps in the top corners are our dead and fled and, yes, the British centre is leaving for some tiffin........

If you go down to the stream today,

You're sure of a big surprise.........

Dave's latest vignette.

What was good? Well, the rules play a dream.  We got through 8 game turns in a very quick time, there were no results that were not realistic and a a good game can be played with only 7 or 8 units a side on a 4x7 table.

As before, thanks to Dave for his hospitality and Sue's cooking.  Very genial hosts.

I must say it is a most impressive collection. When you see the two sides lined up like that its pure eye candy :-*

Excellent stuff from Bickley Towers as always, that Mutiny collection just looks better and better, and the rules sound good too.

Joroas, you are a very lucky guy.

Colour me green with envy...................... :P :P :P :P :P

Thanks for posting the pictures John, and for the very modest description of the awful trouncing my centre suffered ~ oh, and for not mentioning the bl**dy Badmash! >:(
On a plus note, I'm just in from the most marvellous and taxing ACW game at Jon's, which I won by a very narrow margin ~ a top game Jon!

Yes, we do don't we, but we have to cram it into fewer years now. Anyway, it makes up for all the cr*p I had to take from people with mediocre minds down the years.

Nice to see that you reversed the Rajah's misfortune of the previous evening, although my badmash put up a good fight against the mounted ferenghi with pointy things, they did not have your glorious success. Byklabad will stay in the hands of its rightful owners a while longer.

Have to agree on the rules, he is getting the hang of this rule writing thing isn't he :)

A great looking game.

I really like the layout of the table with the nice curving stream - very nice.

Well, the truth is, Phil, there was a lot of luck and help from Dave here.

Going from left to right.

Dave put his Gurkhas and highlanders in the town where they traded shots with my guns and an infantry regt for the whole game.

He advised me to charge the infantry with my cavalry, after two turns of melee the odds change so I fell back.  What this did, though, was force two units into square where they were easy to shoot at: and they suffered.  My centre and guns shot at the infantry.

His cavalry charged on the right, the lancers were stuck in a melee for most of the game with the Prince's Horse, until they were left with one man just long enough for the badmash to finish them off, great as his gun, on my right flank, failed to kill any of them all game.  His HEIC cavalry were more successful, they forced an infantry regt to retire, but before they could push on, my infantry recovered, charged him, beat him and a series of failed pluck tests took them out of the game.

Belatedly, his centre advanced but was riddled by so many kills and pluck tests that they began to retire.  He saved his guns and went back to HQ for tiffin and tinned cake.  :D

A lot of bad luck was involved on Dave's part.  :'(

The rules work a treat and, until told, had lost track of the number of moves we had had, so fast do they play.  Leaving all the units on table gives a nice visual look. Looking forward to a rematch later in the year.

Eye candy is what I see in magazines, it is a rare treat to play with it!  8)

Pensioners?

They are the ones who when you are waiting patiently to talk to someone on a trade stand who is already engaged, come up and excuse themselves so that they can talk to the man behind the counter (even though it is not the man they want) and then somehow weadle in in front of you  ;)

Looks like another fine game at B.T.N.F.E.  (Bickley Towers Nursing Home For The Elderly)  ;D
