Thanks !  Concerning the technicals, I'll wait that everything is ready to paint to actually start painting. I found that this way was faster and more eficient, especially for these big projects. If you sculpt one thing, start painting another thing, finally you never finish anything  lol At least it works like that for me  lol

here's the last work I did. First I started to add ammoboxes on the plastic machine gunners. Simple bits of PVC that I will sand a bit once the glue dried. Nothing too fancy, I don't want to pay too much attention to plastic minis reinforcements.

Then, I modified some fedayeen AT5 crew men to represent talibans. Notice that I based each mini (and missile launcher) individually for easier gameplay.

Here's the final preparation shots of the last taliban minis. Now I have to fix a few defects, but they are ready to receive some black primer (if it's the good way to paint 20mm scale minis  lol).

Next step : finish the crew members for the french special forces. I'll use sandsmodels crews, but I'll simply use them as sculpting "dollies".  I will probably start tonight and then post pics. ;)

Thanks !

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, but I found that historical minis and wargaming can be colorfull, creative and interesting; not boring and austere  at all, like I was thinking when I was a teenager playing scifi and fantasy only.

I fixed the technical last defects, including sculpting hands on the 2 customized gunners. Now they are ready to paint !

I was thinking of using grey primer on these...Is it a good idea ? i'll search for tutorials.

thanks

You're not alone - not that I'm really that much older than some of these kids, but I think to most young teens "historicals" is a bunch of stuffy 60 year olds sitting at a giant table playing 3-6mm Napoleonics and arguing about the marching pace of an Austrian regiment vs. a British regiment etc.  I had a 40K player come up to me once and ask me what the "fluff" was behind my Old West game (and we're Americans!)  lol

He thought surely it had to be Firefly or something weird...because he didn't recognize it!?   Keep up the excellent work, I'm still eagerly following this thread!

Here's some progress, I finally undercoated the minis, around 100 minis to paint now  lol

I hope to finish them before next week end.

I also found 2 old and dusty laminated wood gamingboards I started years ago, and never finished.

They will be a good start for FoF gaming boards, since they are 60x60cms.

I started painting the talibans.

I first divided the figures into 6 groups, with 6 basic paint schemes :

26 white

26 beige

12 blue

12 green

12 brown

12 grey

Basically, it's the same technic I'm using for 10mm painting :

basic dark tone (wetbrush)
final shade (drybrush)
block painting details
wash or stain on the whole mini
final touches (final shade again on edges, details edges)
weapons (base tone, wash, edges)
base and flock

Hi,

Here's the first batch of completed minis (15). The 5 first pics are Caesar plastic minis I modified. Other ones are from Elhiem and Sandsmodels.

Next pics. On the first one, the heavy weapon crew member is a elhiem fedayeen I modified as a taliban.

On the last pic, it's the next batch I hope to finish tommorow, or monday.
