Hello everyone, I am back again after a year of lurking but not posting. Back in 2010 I had a thread going about old school minis but that fizzled out as life got complicated. Lately I have started painting again and could not wait to be a part of this fantastic forum again.
This thread is going to be all about old school and OOP minis from Ral Partha, Grenadier, Citadel, Heratige, Chronopia, Celtos and many more. I just love the character of all old school miniatures and the heft of a metal mini vs. a plastic one.
Enough talk, I present to you all my first pictures of some Chronopia dwarves that I painted recently. I really like these guys, they are heavily armoured and grim (just look at their constipated faces!).

These are great sculpts and I would recommend them to anyone that loves painting dwarves.
Comments always welcome!
Cheers all

Nice to see the Chronopia Dwarves amking an appearance.Bloodbones and Darktusks.
-
Nice work on the dwarves and welcome back! Will be following your posts as I enjoyed the work from your previous thread.
Unless you are going to repost your previous work here, I would consider editing in a link to your old thread in your above post so folks can check out the earlier stuff.
-
Never seen these guys before but I like 'em - particularly the boar helmets and constipated expressions.
Very dour and dwarvish! 8)
-
Nice paints and all but some of those barehead sculpts were anatomically suspect to say the least. :?
-
Nice work. :-*
There were some real gems in that Chronopia line.
-
@Chronopia dwarves
dwarves without beards... >:(
that's cruel...
-
Hello again, it is good to see so many old and new people here in the fantasy forum, there are so many great threads going. I am really excited to get in on the action again.
@manic, all the Chronopia minis are fantastic aren't they? Big heavy chunks of metal. Are you sculpting some Chronopia themed minis? I remember seeing some somewhere.
@m4jumbo, it is great to see you are still here, that old thread was fun, if anyone wants to take a look at it, it is here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=25154.0
Thantsants: your Sven thread is pure eye candy, especially the Slann! They are one of my favourite races.
Hey Commander, yeah they have big heads and no necks, but they look mean, I may even use them as Chaos Dwarves.
aggro84, I have been following your fantasy thread since its beginning, there are a lot of great minis there and some superb painting; thanks for the comments.
@once, beardless dwarves is the new "it", its not cruel, its avant garde ;)
For anyone that wants to buy any Chronopia dwarves here is a comparison pic.
Here we have a Reaper dwarf, Chronopia, Citadel and a Ral Partha dwarf.
Thanks for all the comments all, I really appreciate it.

Lovely work and great skin tones. Looking forwards to seeing how this project comes along.

Lovely I had an army of these but flogged them off to paleskin, I only painted a few but they are lovely to slap paint on, a nice twisted take on dwarves, very much hunch backed evil critters :D
-
WELCOME BACK, Damien! The new old minis look FANTASTIC. I'm not familiar with the Chronopia thingies; so they're brand new to moi. Following your progress will be cool...KEEP 'EM COMING!
-
Thanks for all the positive comments; I hope my next post will be better than the first. Some OOP goodness will be coming soon.
Hi DeafNala, it is good to be back and good to see that you are still here; your infectious enthusiasm (and your thread) are inspiring.
Thanks again
Damien
-
Great to see you back Damien! Nice job on some anatomically suspect fellows! =)
-
Love it Damien!
I'm secretly awaiting my latest acquisition of Ral Partha and Grenadier figs. Then I'm going on an Old School painting spree for our fantasy playtesting.
You now have me supercharged to get busy! Thanks!
-
Nice brushwork! Good to see you back in the saddle, even if it is with the oddest proportioned figures I've seen in a long while. Having said that, the boar's head helmet is brilliant.
-
Hi phreedh, it is really good to be back. I responded to your thread, I am glad it is still going.
Faust don't go old school, it is the worst addiction ever; scouring ebay for days and you can never buy enough! On the other hand I really like your painting style so I can't wait to see some minis painted up.
Hello Rab, thanks for the comments, even though those minis look a little odd in the pics they are awesome minis when you are painting them and that boar helmet is brilliant.
Okay, today we have a unit of Celtos skeletons (with one GW as the champion). I really like all the Celtos minis, their skeletons are really well sculpted and a lot of fun to paint; I would recommend them to anyone building an undead army/war band. I start with brown as a first layer for the bones giving them a dry look, then used red on all of them to unite the unit.
Hope you like them.

I really like the skellies on the first row their scythes popping out forwards towards you.
Comments always welcome and let me know if I am posting too many pics. Oh and I am missing one skeleton in the back to finish the unit, let me know if anyone wants to sell me one.
Cheers all

There is no such thing as too many photos, particularly when the subjects are such BEAUTIFULLY painted & based minis. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thanks DeafNala, I always look forward to your comments; you give the best responses.
Damien
-
Nice! Particularly the hero/champion fellow with the striking freehand shield :)
-
Do any of you lot remember Fraser Grey? I bought this Orc off ebay due to an old 'Eavy Metal article which showcased Mr. Grey's talent (especially his shield designs). I wonder whatever happened to him?

Yet another Old Friend...I still may have one of these kicking around. AND that Old White Dwarf was one of those that I pawed through until it fell apart or was lost in one of my moves. Have FUN with the painting et al!
-
I had that issue. Frasier's stuff was cutting edge back then. No idea what became of him.
-
Yes, of course I remember Fraser's work; it was not only featured in White Dwarf, but also in "Fantasy Miniatures", the first of the full colour miniature books Citadel published in 1988. His work was a great inspiration! There is a page from the book at the King's Minis page:
:)
-
Look at those minis! I never paid much attention to those books but may have to buy them sometime; Mr. Grey really was an inspiration to me back then.
Thanks for the replies guys, maybe one day we'll figure out if he is still in the 'hobby' or has moved on to other things.

I remember this topic being up for discussion a few years ago.. someone provided a link to a website with Fraser's art. Apparently he's making a living as an artist. Nothing related to fantasy gaming.
-
I remember speaking to him at a Games Day back in the 80s at the height of his fame...I asked him if he did any dry brushing and he looked down at me as if I was something unpleasant he'd just stepped in.....obviously I was too lowly a pleb for his might ego. Great painting style but the guy was awful that time.
-
Great work on those dwarves. I can certainly see them as Chaos Dwarves. Keep it up!

I guess they are right when they say never meet your heros; no offence but that is kind of a funny story though.
Thanks for the comment Chaos Wolf, I hope to keep this thread going for a long while.
Today I present to you all a Citadel Battle Lord. I want to paint up a warband, I don't have any particular rules in mind, I just want to paint up a cool band of minis with similar colour schemes. This warband will be painted green and white and will include a lot of medieval types (and possibly some dwarves 'cause I love painting dwarves).
I tried to paint some wood grain inside the shield instead and the fleur de lis the first free hand I have ever done; I'll be doing more shields as they are fun to do.
Comments (and criticisms) always welcome,
Damien
-
Nice metals, as always! The shield turned out very well, the wood grain in particular. The motif could use a little sharper edges, but it's still good!
Also, why square bases? ;) :P
-
The wood grain & the freehand look GREAT...as does the rest of the mini. If you enjoy doing shields, you'll love standards...probably. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Also, why square bases? ;) :P
HA! I just read your response on M.P. 's barbarian thread! lol I always liked the round bases on your minis. The only question I had was if it was rule specific and nothing to do with the bases themselves.
Hey DeafNala, I just finished a standard and it was fun; shields and banners are intimidating (are they going to look silly, rough and not well done, etc) you just have to do them and not care.
Thanks for the comments guys (I may go back and sharpen up the edges on the shield).
Damien

That Knight looks shithot! I have the Halberdier and one other Battle Lord, but they are for my 'citadel sized' force and will have to wait 'til later to get painted.
-
Hello again, there have been some really cool posts here these last few weeks, I got all fired up and painted up three more minis for my war band. I painted up two old Citadel (Perry?) archers and a Metal Magic man at arms; all painted green and beige/white. The archers are a little smaller than today's Citadel minis but they were a blast to paint with very expressive faces.
Here we go:

Let me know what you all think,
Damien
Looking at these photos again, they are a little washed out, I had my EV (brightness a little too high) oh well.
-
Those look great Damien! Don't worry about the photo, it's a thing that eludes me all the time. ;)
I always get inspired by your work.
Keep 'em coming. :D
-
I love those archers. The color combination is really effective, so I might just have to steal it.
-
Looks really good! And some nice miniatures always make it a joy to see them painted so well.
-
The new Men At Arms look GREAT camera woes notwithstanding. From their colors they look to be the minions of you Battle Lord. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thanks for the comments Faust.
Michka, I love your minis, steal away, I would be flattered.
Hey DeafNala, yup they are for my growing war band along with the lord of battle knight.
Here is the entire war band thus far:

Really like what you did with that bill-man. I've got one painted myself, not a half bad mini. I was a lot moe lazy doing mine though:

Good looking group. I like the color scheme on these.
-
Thanks Jonas!
phreedh, I think your looks pretty good! Did you ever figure out where the guy on the right came from? (Damn I am jealous of your table)
Thanks m4jumbo.
Here are some WIP knights I have been working on, the guy on the left will eventually find his way into my war band. The knight on the left and the centre knight are from Grenadier and the knight on the right is from Ral Partha.

LOOKING GOOD! You're painting up some Old Friends there; thinking back to when they were new really makes me feel OLD. Have FUN with them; I'm sure they'll look TERRIFIC when you're done.

The guy on the right is a Grenadier (now Mirliton) halberdier. Same vintage as the left and center knight you are working on above.
-
Lovely work on those metals and I like the off white and green livery.
The shield design looks great too 8)
-
Old skool and great painting, whats not too like!
-
Thanks again for all the comments guys, they are really appreciated.
@m4jumbo, thanks for the info, I am going to look out for him on ebay.
So I finished one knight yesterday and thought I would post him up and see what you guys think of him. Once again he is from Grenadier, these guys really knew how to sculpt knights. Nothing too fancy as a paint job just a lot of metal but fun to do.

Love it! :-* :-* :-*
-
Is the chin actually armoured, or was that a conversion decision on your part?
-
Looks like a gorget & bevor to me...
-
Excellent work, being Grenadier makes it even better in my book.
-
Thanks Faust, I really liked painting him, he was quick and simple but looks good on a table.
Hi FramFramson, the chin is armoured, I believe Faust is right and it is a gorget & bevor.
Hey Imp, I love Grenadier as well, great sculpts and very fun to paint, I can't get enough of them.
Today is just a WIP shot of another Grenadier Knight for my growing War Band of green and white/beige characters. I am realizing that I have too many knight/men at arms minis and not enough fantasy; I need to remedy that.
Here he is, let me know what you think, all he needs to be finished is highlighting on his tunic and plume.

-
I just love Grenadier miniatures. I think you've done them proud once again. I especially like the knight with the green and beige tabard. Looks fantastic.
-
Damn those metals look good D!
I love seeing real metallics!
-
Looks good! As it's WIP I might be too early criticising but the tunic could use better contrast between the white and the green. Metallics are lovely as always!
-
Shiny, shiny! 8)
-
LOOKIN' GOOD! Both Knights painted up TERRIFIC. I think you might consider a brighter gold on the hilt & pummel of the first Guy's sword. Other than that bit of nitpicking, VERY WELL DONE!
-
Today is just a WIP shot of another Grenadier Knight for my growing War Band of green and white/beige characters
Cor, that's nice!
Um... is it still available anywhere? Mirliton?
-
Hello everyone,
Michka, thanks for the comments, he is not completely done yet, I think I should be done with him tomorrow, I'll post some finished pics soon.
Thanks Faust, yeah NMM is really cool but I personally could not get into painting it; I enjoy painting metallics too much.
phreedh, criticize away, any comment is a good comment, I should be finishing him soon, be sure to let me know if get the contrast right.
Thanks Thantsants, I love the old mithril silver paint from the early 90s; in fact the majority of my paints are from then. What is funny is that I bought Citadel paint pots 2 years ago and they have dried out but my paints from the early 90s are still good.
Thanks DeafNala, I always enjoy your comments, I may go back and pick up the highlights on the pummel a little more.
Thanks Vermis, I am not sure about Mirliton, I would assume he is there (somewhere), as I don't live in the old world I have not spent a lot of time on the website. I personally bought him off of Ebay.
Thanks again for all the comments everyone, they help drive the painting process.
Cheers,
Damien

What's up boys, I have finally finished the Grenadier Knight for my growing Warband; he was really fun to paint and an awesome sculpt.
Here he is, let me know what you think:

Cheers guys,
Damien
-
Beautiful! :-* :-* :-*
-
That really turned out to be a FINE LOOKING piece; i.e., the highlighted white & green is quite striking as is the depth you've achieved with your metalwork. GREAT WORK!
-
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your comments and encouragement!
Cheers,
Damien
-
Another cracking paint job!
-
Turned out very nice! :) The line between the green and white (on the tunic) is still a bit fuzzy though, that was what I was talking about earlier. No big deal!
Agree about mithril silver, btw... =) I'm dreading the day mine goes. I'll have a go at the Coat d'arms I suppose.
-
Thanks Imp!
phreedh, I knew what you were talking about but I just couldn't tighten up that border (don't ask me why 'cause I tried). Glad you like the paint job though. As for mithril silver, I started using Vallejo Model Color Silver (70.997) it is a very bright silver but it is not the same so I went back to my almost dry bottle of mithril :'(
Cheers guys,
Damien

Wow, I didn't check out the fantasy forum for a week and there are a ton of amazing posts here!
This week I painted some vintage GW Chaos Warriors, I love these guys, they are big, chunky, menacing sculpts. I decided to paint them in the classic colourful schemes of back in the day. The first one is a warrior of Khorne, I experimented with the shadows by using very dilute purple and sculpted his base with Tamiya putty. With the Nurgle warrior, I just added varying nauseous greens to his armour and got lazy regarding his base. I like the red guy better but think the green guy turned out OK too.
Let me know what you guys think:

Thanks for all the comments,
Damien
-
Yeah nice! I like the Khorn dude best the base is awesome too!
-
Love them! Long live old school! ;)
-
GREAT WORK on some Golden Oldies! The Red Guy's shield is especially cool.
-
Thanks for the comments guys, I just wanted some quick minis to paint and thought of these guys.
Hi Mo, Khorne warriors are naturally just cooler in my book.
Suber, there is no school like old school my friend! Killer blog, love those high elf ships you are painting and your client should be very happy with his 54mm braveheart fig.
Thanks DeafNala, I didn't have any solid idea of what I wanted on the shield just started painting and ended up with that design.
Cheers everyone and thanks again for all the comments,
Damien
-
The khorne fellow turned out especially good! His shield in particular! If you want to lift him just a little bit, pick out the studs and rivets with metal.
Same thing goes for the nurgle lad. I'm not so keen on the chalky effect, but it does make his armour look very worn and rough. To make him nurglier (huh?) maybe go over him once with a very thin green wash?
-
Thanks phreedh, after looking at the pics of the Nurgle warrior I was thinking the same thing, a light wash would give the mini a little more depth. I went with a dry brush for the green to give the armour a decaying look but your wash idea should smooth that out a little too.
I'll give that a try and post some pics soon
Damien
-
Like your painting style Damien,realistic 8) :-*
-
Great work. Those shields are awesome.
-
Love them! Long live old school! ;)
That's right. Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah! (i personally like the way the armour is done)
-
Very nice - I agree on the Khorne guy. The red and purple works really well.
Seconded on washing the Nurgle guy if that isn't too much of a contradiction in terms ;)
-
Looks sweet! I agree with the above gents, a glaze or wash of green will create depth. Red guy looks great and I love what you did with his shield art.
-
Thanks Blackwolf, that is high praise from the 'build something' contest winner. I voted for you and your amazing nymph filled forest loch!
Hi beefcake, thanks, I had no idea what I wanted to do with those shields and just winged it. I am really enjoying your 'dungeon beasties' thread and I hope you keep it up. Love that Ogre and thanks for the basing tips.
Thanks Legion1963, keep your minis glossed, they remind me of awesome old school painting from back in the day.
Thantsants, that is the question: to wash, or not to wash a Nurgle Champion... actually I have been washing/glazing him but am not happy with him yet; hopefully soon though.
What's up Faust! Thanks for the comments, I had more patience with the red guy and am really happy with how his shield turned out as well.
Cheers everyone, I really appreciate all the C&C, more old school painting to come.
Damien

Hello everyone, today I am posting a Grenadier 25mm Knight, I decided to paint him red (and monotone) and get away from any any greens or whites. He was fun and quick to paint, this is the first time I ever used any of these round bases, I think they look pretty cool. It is also the first time I added some long grass/shrub to a base, for a first attempt, I think it turned out well. I added a shield on his back from my bits box, he has a strap along the front of his torso (which I painted brown) that ends mysteriously in the middle of his back, so I thought a shield belonged there originally.
Here he is, any comments are always appreciated:

Also, here are some recent buys from ebay, they are in the process of being stripped, I should have one or two painted by next week. These are old 1980's 25mm Grenadier skeletons, Grenadier made some larger 28mm skeletons in the 90's but I prefer these little guys for some reason.
Thanks again,
Damien
-
The new Knight looks GOOD...FINE brushwork & basing! I seem to remember him as part of a King Arthur set...of course, I've been wrong before.
The Skeletons I did for a regular patron who had them from his boyhood. As I recall they were really horrible minis to paint. I hope you find them otherwise, & have FUN with the painting.
-
Hi DeafNala, they are a little rough around the edges but have a certain 'ugly dog' charm to them.
Thanks for the comments
Damien
-
Great additions. I'm late to the party but I really like those simple graphical shields on the chaos warriors. Looking forward to seeing those skeletons.
-
Love the grenadier skeletons, well to be fair anything grenadier did.
Knight looks pretty cool, he came from 6005 Knights, Fighters & Men at Arms, and your right there was a shield in the set you could put on his back http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Image:G-flbs-6005z.jpg
Like the base, I keep debating on whether or not I want to go over to them.
-
Thanks for the comments evand! I should get to those skeletons soon, have you posted up some pics? Post a link to your thread here, I would like to see it.
Hey Imp, thanks for the info, maybe I should have put a kite shield on him instead of a round one. I keep looking at those shields, they look really cool. To be honest I like the way the base looks but from now on I think I would only use it for special characters. I think having all my minis on these bases wouldn't look as good as having them on square ones. But of course that is your decision to make. I am painting some gobbos right now, maybe some blue skin......
Thanks for the comments guys,
Damien
-
Nice work. Can't wait to see those skeletons :D
-
Round one looks good on him.
I think what I like most about those bases is the middle is recessed a bit so the old solid base guy's look a little bit more smooth on the ground. Still undecided because I know if I start I'll go back and rebase the rest of them. Not sure I want to do that.
Ohh blue skin gobbos, I like that idea..
-
Some lovely old school goodness around here.
Oh, yes!
Loving those metallics.
Superb work!
:-*
I have finally gotten together all the old school Asgard Dwarves of my youth now, so I hope to get them all painted up at some point this year, other projects permitting.... ::)
Threads like this will keep that idea alive until I get the time.
:D
-
I just bought a huge bunch of Asgard orcs to use as goblins from Viking forge. Great miniatures the old Asgard stuff even by today's standards.
-
Asgard minis! I keep going to their site and drooling over those minis, their dwarves, their barbarians, their orcs, etc, etc. All are fantastic, gentleman........START PAINTING! (and post those pics). Can't wait to see these minis.
Damien
-
Well, if any of you guys are ever going to make an order at Viking Forge, please let me know.
There are a few things that I would like, but the nature of their system puts me off messing about.
But if anyone on your side of the pond does order I would love to piggy back.
:D
-
Hi Mason, if I ever order from Viking forge I'll keep you in mind; btw your Mordheim Project is out of this world!
Cheers,
Damien
-
Must be something in the water. My giant order of asgards came from viking forge yesterday. Very fast and painless delivery. Those old Jes Goodwins are in a league of their own. I think I erred slightly in my ordering (mixed up one code) but viking forge was quite pleasant to deal with. If you are ordering from them, make sure you double check your codes though.
-
Yep, check your codes definitely. It's a bit of a backward ordering system. Sometime I'm going to order a huge bunch of wolf riders from them. Their wolves look really good!!!
Sorry Damien. Now that I'm back at work my painting schedule will suffer immensely. Maybe I'll finish half a mini ia weekend, if I'm lucky. :-[
Really nice to deal with though, Viking forge.
-
Great looking knight Damien - lovely metallics as ever!
The skellies look like fun minis - especially the chieftain with his pall bearers 8)
-
Thanks for the tip evand, make sure you post some pics when done.
beefcake, that is what I do too, about 1/2 to 1 mini a week, they eventually add up though, just keep at it.
Thanks Thantsants, loving your Mayhem thread.
Today I am posting a Metal Magic Dwarf, I cannot stress enough how nice the Metal Magic range is (especially the Dwarves!). The dwarves have normal anatomy without the large hand/feet mutations that GW has. They are very proportional and look 'normal' next to other minis. I painted this guy up as a member of my green/white war band, I had noticed that all the minis I painted could be historical so I decided to paint a dwarf to add an element of fantasy to the band. Enough rambling here he is with a group shot of the war band as well:

As always C&C are always welcome, thanks for looking (and all the awesome threads here on the fantasy boards).
Cheers
Damien

Opps forgot to update the title! ::)
Damien
-
The Dwarf is indeed a COOL mini...EXCELLENT brushwork. The Hobby Products/Metal Magic minis are old favorites. They have the most exquisitely, expressive faces of just about any minis out then or now. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thanks DeafNala, their faces are sculpted very well indeed. I bought a bunch of them from Mega Minis a few years ago and am only now getting around to painting them.
Thanks for the comments,
Damien
-
Looks absolutely great, and it completely fits in the rest of the bunch. Great work :).
-
Oooooh, I really like that guy with the hammer. I want more hammer miniatures!!!!!
-
Wonderful thread, helps me keep going with my own :)
-
What a collection mate! :-* :-*
Really loves your work. The red chaos warrior is just epic! 8)
-
Thanks for the encouragement Suber, these metal magic dwarves are my favourites.
@beefcake, warhammers are pretty kick ass!
Shit Blackwolf, coming from you that is a huge compliment, love the loch and love the tower!
Thanks Faber, loving your Mordheim thread, I have never seen better zombies than yours.
Cheers guys, I really appreciate the comments,
Damien
-
Love it!!! :-* :-* :-*

Hey Faust, where you been? Missing your thread and presence on this board.
Thanks for the comment,

Hey Faust, where you been? Missing your thread and presence on this board.
Thanks for the comment,
Damien
I know, it feels like ages! I've been on the road for work quite a bit and haven't finished the last three figs on my desk. We (Drew & I) have spent every free minute on building the new fantasy board for our Brink of Battle Epic Heroes supplement in time for ConQuest Sacramento April 5-7th. Crazy busy, but I'm certain you will like the results.
:D
-
Can't wait to see them big guy; post them when you can.
Damien

Hello everyone, back again with another Metal Magic dwarf, did I mention that I love these little guys? Look at his expression, the wise look in his eyes. I decided to try painting purple (first attempt) and found it a fun colour to paint. Not much more to say about him except Metal Magic minis (especially dwarves) are a blast to paint; go get some!

That is it, let me know what you guys think, C&C always appreciated,
Damien
Forgot to mention that I attempted a blueish/white beard (blue shade, white highlight), it did not turn out that well, my girlfriend hates it but I am too lazy to go back and fix it.
-
Bed e work. The white beard and the white cloth are really well done. Different looking whites are good.
-
What a good thread! Love these miniatures!! :-* :-*
-
The Knight of Lesser Stature is one of the NICEST pieces you've done thus far. The off white & purple tunic looks TERRIFIC...sets off his face well. GREAT WORK!
-
Thanks for the comments beefcake, always appreciated.
Thanks einarolafson! Your creeps are fantastic! I already posted this on your thread but the eyes and the tongues are out of this world (people go and see this thread: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=50895.0 if you already have not done so).
Hello DeafNala, I really enjoyed painting the purple, because of that, I painted more highlights than I usually do and I think the result was pretty good.
Cheers all, you all have fantastic threads making your comments doubly appreciated,
Damien
-
The dwarf turned out great. Metal magic did some great mins, and yours makes me want to go collect them. Must resist. ..
-
Thanks Imp, well if you don't resist you will certainly have a blast painting them (just give in) :D
Cheers,
Damien
-
I find him really nice too! :) White can be messy when different tones are put altogether, but you have solved it perfectly. Great work!
-
Looks great Damien! I love dwarves that actually look like they can walk.
-
Very nice looking, Damien! The beard works, but looks a bit chunky and thick. Almost like foam. =)
-
Hello Suber, I am finding I really like painting beige/white if done right it comes out looking creamy; kind of fun.
Hey Faust, I am glad you like the paint job and mini, I too like dwarves that look 'normal' (I am also glad you liked my review of Brink of Battle).
@ phreedh, the beard didn't really turn out the way I wanted and you are right it does look a little like foam/shaving gel lol
Cheers for all the comments guys,
Damien

I didn't have much time to paint this week so I looked for something quick and easy in my lead pile (funny, it never seems to get any smaller). I decided to paint up some Citadel skeleton crew from the old skull chucker catapult. They are small and humble but are sculpted well and a lot of fun to paint.
Here they are, let me know what you think:

Comments and critiques always welcome,
Damien
-
Ooo, I remember those, they were fun and great! And they still are! :)
-
Nice work on some old classics.
:-*
I love how the skeletons of this range were so distinctive due to the shape of those eye sockets.
Very sinister!
>:D
-
Hi Suber, thanks for the comments, I was over at your blog and read the Oldhammer 40k skirmish, I love the old space marine sculpts. I never painted Sci Fi, you are making me want to try some.
Thanks Mason, the eye orbits were a very innovative idea, made those old school skeletons look really mean.
Thanks guys,
Damien
-
Thanks, Damien! I could almost say the same, I did some WH Fantasy long time ago, but it's been ages since I don't put my hands on that, but I find your works inspiring. Maybe sometime soon...
-
The Old Dead Guys look GREAT...you did a fine job with the bone shades. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Really like the dwarf - simple and clean colour scheme. And I love how fluffy his beard looks!
The skeletons are very amusing as well. Good job! :)
-
Thanks DeafNals, I find bone a lot of fun to paint, in fact I have an entire undead army painted that I still haven't photographed; I'll do so sometime soon.
Hello Princess and welcome to my thread! Thanks for the feedback, I really like painting the vertically impaired, they are cool little guys to paint, same goes for skeletons as well. Now keep painting those frogs (my girlfriend wants to buy some now too).
Thanks again Suber, I can see you painting a cool Old School Citadel fighter/knight, I say you dig one out and have a go.
Cheers guys,
Damien
-
Hello Princess and welcome to my thread! Thanks for the feedback, I really like painting the vertically impaired, they are cool little guys to paint, same goes for skeletons as well. Now keep painting those frogs (my girlfriend wants to buy some now too).
I love them too! I have some old 3rd edition Warhammer dwarf units on the waiting list, but I also have the newer GW dwarf army too! Also keen to paint some of the LAM dwarves, which I find more intricately detailed and just love the different look from the GW minis. So I totally get your enthusiasm!
Haha I knew those froggies were going to catch on! I told Nic (from Eureka) that they are a very good girl's range. You should show your girlfriend the teddies too - very nifty. Pirates, Cowboys, Romans ... I've got some from a couple of the teddy ranges! But in the meantime, I have to finish the rest of the frog troops and then move onto the king and also the cannon!
-
Nice job on the skellies Damien! They are indeed quick to paint up, they saved me from being a no-show in one of the rounds of the last LPL.
BTW, do you remember where you can get the old Metal Magic dwarfs from nowadays? John @ Mega sold the molds off so they no longer stock them (only the Olley dwarfs). I need me some Ochmann stunties! =)
-
Never mind... Midlam has them:
http://www.midlamminiatures.co.uk/
-
Excellent as usual my friend! Oh, and I'm a sucker for pointing figures. They have a certain commanding gravitas.
-
Lovely work on those skeletons Damien! Those crewmen are still nice figures 8)
-
Hello Painting Princess, paint up (and post) some 3rd edition dwarves, I think they are everyones favourites (certainly mine). As per the teddies, its bad enough I have to get her some frogs now. Thanks for the comments I appreciate them.
Hi phreedh, thanks for the comments, I forgot about Midlam minis, I was looking on ebay for some more but couldn't find the one I wanted. I'll check them out (too bad about Mega minis selling the molds).
Hey Faust! That pointer is definitely the bossy type, I wanted to find some skeletal dogs for him, I think he would look cool with a couple of dogs in front of him (no one steal that idea! ;)).
Hi Pil, you are right, the crewmen are great little sculpts, especially that little pile of skulls that came with them and the catapult (I'll have to paint that one day).
Thanks again for all the positive comments guys (and gal),
Damien
-

Haha oops! lol
Re: dwarves - I will certainly post some up when I get around to painting them. Probably one of the next projects I will do. It will be a bit of a ramshackle army though, as I've got a bunch of dwarf units but also Skarloc's elf scouts and a couple of other odd figures. It'll be an interesting bunch :)
-
That 'ramshackle army' sounds pretty cool to me; post them up whenever you get the chance to paint them.
Haha oops! lol
Stop laughing at my pain, I'll end up having to paint those little critters up for her (they are kind of cute though ::)).
Cheers,
Damien
-
Stop laughing at my pain, I'll end up having to paint those little critters up for her (they are kind of cute though ::)).
Maybe that can be a condition of purchase? :P "I will buy them for you, but you have to paint them". It can work ;)
Good luck with that! And keep up the dwarf painting :)
-
More classic stuff!!! Great!! :-* :o
-
Hi Princess, I'll consider the condition, perhaps it will work. Now you keep up that dwarf painting :D.
Thanks for the comments and encouragement einarolafson, now if only I could figure out how to paint the most realistic eye in the history of miniature painting ;) Great Fanticide thread btw.
Thanks guys,
Damien

This week I decided to keep going with the Metal Magic theme and painted a Goblin from their range. I love these goblins, they are very different from the GW sculpts and have tons of character. I decided to paint the skin tone with Vallejo Green/Brown and I think it turned out really well, let me know what you guys think.

Here is the paint I used for the skin:
I also tried a new background, a lot of people here take pics with a black background and the minis looked really good; let me know what you think, white or black?
I really liked painting this little guy and hope to buy the entire Metal Magic Goblin range in the future.
C&C always welcome and thanks for looking,
Damien
-
I like that little goblin. Nice job. The black background looks good too.
-
Very good! I too love these goblins. The shoddy paintjobs on Mega's site betray the awesomeness of the sculpts. Skin tone turned out great! Also, the black background works very well. Keep it up buddy!
-
Great work, Damien!
:-*
Lovely skin tone, it takes me back to my early teens when I used to paint my orcs and goblins brown.
I still think that it looks better.
-
I used to paint my orcs purple.
-
Thanks beefcake, now show us a purple Orc!
You are absolutely right phreedh, I wish Mega Minis would just show bare metal minis instead of the crapy 80's paint jobs. Thanks for the feedback, you have convinced me and I think I'll try taking some more pics with the black background.
Hello Mason, a well painted army of brown orcs and goblins would be a site to see, it reminds me of the old Lord of the Rings animation from the early 80s. Thanks for the positive feedback!
Well thanks again guys, the positive feedback is really appreciated!
Cheers,
Damien
-
I also tried a new background, a lot of people here take pics with a black background and the minis looked really good; let me know what you think, white or black?
They look great!
As to white or black, I think it depends not he miniature and colours used. Some colours stand out better in front of a white background and others a black one. This looks really good in front of the black background, though! :)
-
Good point about the paint job vs. background, I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks for the feedback Princess, I really like your (Romina) frog princess thread.
Damien
-
No problem! And thanks :)
-
Thanks beefcake, now show us a purple Orc!
They were my first minis, 6mm jobs, don't even know the manufacturer.
Did grenadier ever do 6mm?
-
VERY COOL as only a Goblin can be! The skin tones definitely improve his appearance. GREAT WORK!
I haven't figured out background colors either. It does seem to moi that the black doesn't fade out the colors as much as white/lighter shades.
-
Absolutely charming! Full of flavour and personality! Love it!
-
6mm Grenadier? I don't think so... Well you just have to paint a new I guess :D
DeafNala, I found that white was leeching the colours a bit too that is why I tried black; taking pics is still a nightmare for me. Thanks for the comments though!
Thanks Suber, I'm following your Spanish soldier WIP thread and really like how it is coming along.
Thanks guys and gals,
Damien
-
6mm Grenadier? I don't think so... Well you just have to paint a new I guess :D
They did a 6mm dragon range and a game for them called Dragon lords inc riders for the dragons too.
-
Thanks for the info Imp, now to try and find some pics....
-
No problem, pic's here http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/dragon-lords-6mm.html.
Going to be selling a lot of them soon game and 14 blisters.
-
What a lovely creature!! Very nice skin colour!!
About the background thing, as other people have said, It works well but you can use black or white depending on the effects that you are looking for.
Cheers.
-
Hello everyone, last week I painted three Citadel Goblins, I wanted to paint them really quick and easy. They were a blast to paint and I used the classic green skin tones that GW promotes. Two received green with yellow highlights and the third I painted goblin green with lighter shades of green and also gave him the classic red lower lip. It was a bit of a study on how to speed paint but in the end I really prefer to paint just on mini per week and take my time. I also tried three different types of bases for the minis, one received the traditional sand and static grass, one a snow base (just sprinkled some baking soda on glue) and the last received a dungeon base made with Tamiya putty).
Enough talk, let me know what you think:

Even though it is much older than the other goblins, I really liked painting the vintage Perry gobbo best (the guy with no eyes).
Thanks for looking,
Damien
-
Great work - I think the archer is my fave, although I don't go in for the red lip on my Orcs and Gobbo's and also favour highlighting with Goblin Green lightened with yellow.
Don't know if its the lighting in the photo but would a little more detailing in a darker colour around the edge of the yellow flame effect on the middle fellow's hood help distinguish it a bit more from his flesh tones? Perhaps some classic 80's cheques?
The Perry guy is fun - is he one of the old Red Orcs?
-
Hmmm, I see what you mean, I may do something about it, I would love to do some 'checks' but thinking about all those little boxes.. o_o.
Yup, he is one of the original Red Orcs, I wish I could get another but for some reason they go for a lot of money on Ebay.
Thanks for the comments (and loved the Goblin Quest AAR you posted),
Damien
-
Love them, especially like the archer one. I prefer using sand and grass bases because while they can fight "indoors" now and then, I use my miniatures "outdoors" . Again is a matter of taste, isn't it? Great job anyway!!
-
Thanks einarolafson, I bought the warhammer goblins way back in 1982-83, they came in a blister of three with hex bases, first time I ever say slotta bases. I still have the third somewhere, I should dig him out and paint him too.
As per bases, I prefer outdoor bases as well but like to experiment sometimes.
Thanks for the comments,
Damien
-

Well done, though I do agree with Thantsants about the hood. It's a little obscured because of the similar colours. Doesn't necessarily have to be checks if they boggle your eyes, but a little something to distinguish it a bit more would be good :)
Look forward to seeing more of the brown goblins you were doing before! :)
-
Thanks for the comments Princess, I went to your princess diaries blog and saw that you are painting a female gladiator from Reaper, she looks good so far, post some pics when she is done. I have her too and am curious to see what kind of design you paint on her shield.
Cheers,
Damien
-
like them all. Great work. The goblin blister you mention was my first citadel one as well http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/File:Collectors_Series_1604.jpg
-
What a cool coincidence!! I can't believe you found a pic of them as well.
Thanks Imp,
Damien
-
Looking great bud! Keep 'em coming.

Yes, I am. I originally intended for her to be Xena (closest thing I could find that had the right kind of dress, etc. that I actually liked ... the "I'm-not-really-Xena" miniature [forget where it's from] I didn't really like) but it always bothered me that she had a helmet on ... so I decided to just use her as a gladiator.
Not really sure what to paint on her shield yet ... we'll see. I will definitely post an update when I actually finish painting her :) thanks for checking out my blog! :)
-
Now that you mention it, she could be Xena; your blogs are cool with lots of fun projects/WIPs.
Post her up when done,
Damien
-
Thanks :)
I will be getting another one of these figs and getting my husband to change its head. It will annoy me no end if my Xena has a helmet on forever ;D
-
The Old Goblins are all like little Marty Feldman look-a-likes; this is a MAJOR plus with moi. The Little Rogues turned out VERY NICELY indeed...try the checks; they're actually pretty easy to do. Keep up the GREAT WORK!
-
Great stuff, Damien.
Those old Gobbos are class!
:-*
My personal favourite is the chap with the bow.
Evil looking little git!
8)
-
Thank you for the comments gentlemen, perhaps I should try the checks, the problem with me is when I 'finish' a mini I never want to go back to it; perhaps I'll try them on the third, unpainted gobbo, that came in the same blister.
Hi Mason, yeah, he is my favourite as well, I tried the green with yellow highlights and don't like them as much as highlighting with lighter greens.
Thanks again for the comments, they are verily appreciated,
Damien
-
Hello again, this week I painted an unknown miniature, I got him when I bought a lot of miniatures from Ebay and don't know who made him. I thought he looked pretty cool, he is a classic D&D/adventurer type with a bed roll and backpack, till I saw his face. His face looks like it got rubbed off (and no eyes!), all the details are really soft. So I threw him on the lead pile and thought he was probably destined for the rubbish heap. Then I got the idea of painting him as a zombie (my first zombie paint job in fact), here he is, let me know what you guys think:

The last picture is for a size comparison with a Citadel mini and a Grenadier mini, he is definitely on the 25mm small side. To paint his skin I used purple and sunny skin tone from Vallejo paints.
C&C always welcome and thanks for looking (btw anyone recognize the mini?)
Damien
-
Lovely stuff :),The unkonwn mini is a Chronicle CF19 Half orc adventurer and his looks are typical chronicle-esque ;). Quaint scuplts i have a few of from back in the day
-
That's turned out well.
-
Thanks for for the comments and the info Mr. pumkinhead. Chronicle miniatures? I am not sure I am familiar with them, I'll have to look them up.
Hi stone-cold-lead, thanks for the comment, your bretonnians are the best I have ever seen.
Thanks for taking the time to comment,
Damien
-
That is a pretty cool looking mini with a nice painjob.
8)
I must have missed the Citadel Paladin, unless this is his first outing, because he looks excellent. I love the work on his armour.
Just wonderful!
:-*
-
Thanks Mason! The paladin was painted (and posted) when I first joined the LAF in 2010. Painting knights are my favourite due to their armour but I am trying to branch out to other types of minis (like this zombie).
Thanks for the comments,
Damien
-
Lovely paint job as usual. Chronicle miniatures were done by Nick Lund, who after citadel went on to Grenadier and sculpted a bunch for their Fantasy Warriors line.
-
Thanks Mason! The paladin was painted (and posted) when I first joined the LAF in 2010. Painting knights are my favourite due to their armour but I am trying to branch out to other types of minis (like this zombie).
You are welcome, mate.
Like I said, I like the armour, very Paladin-like.
The branching out is obviously working a treat, too, if the Zombie is anything to go by.
:)
-
The new Old Guy looks GREAT! The color choices & brushwork, especially the shield, make a so-so mini something special. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thanks Imp, I really like Nick Lund's sculpts, especially the Grenadier Hobgoblins, they had an evil and oriental look to them.
Thanks again Mason, I don't paint as many Citadel minis (and knights) as I would like but hope to paint some soon.
Thanks DeafNala, these old guys really deserve painting, I am painting a really old mini right now (from 1973) and he is proving really fun to do. He'll be posted next week.
Cheers again guys,
Damien
-
Looks good. Good choice making it a zombie... Eyeless, half orc adventurer, doesn't sound very adventurous
-
Mystery figure is great, love that old stuff :) When I was an boy...
-
Great stuff - he just needs his own dungeon (the last one he ever explored!) to haunt. :D
-
Wooo, so nice!!
-
Great idea, Damien! The zombie turned out really well ... Glad this guy didn't end up on the rubbish heap! Could make for some interesting gaming scenarios :D
Keep posting up interesting minis!
-
Thanks for the comments everyone, comments like these are what keep me motivated.
Hi beefcake, "Eyeless, half orc adventurer, doesn't sound very adventurous" but it does have a certain ring to it, doesn't it? :D Moral of the story: If you have a lump of lead that doesn't look like much, make him into a zombie.
Thanks Blackwolf, as you can see, I am addicted to all the old toys from my childhood; I love painting these guys up.
Hi Thantsants, loved your 'Goblin Quest' thread, he would be perfect in an adventure, perhaps we need to create some zombie characteristics for the game.
Thanks Suber, you now have me looking up Rogue Trader era minis on Ebay, love your threads.
Hello Princess, thank you for your positive comments, I eagerly await more of your wonderfully painted Kermits.
Thanks again everyone,
Damien

Hello lads and gals, last week I painted a Heritage miniature Gnome. On his base, he was date stamped to 1973! That is one old school mini! He was really fun to paint due to his large face and big nose, I added some red ink to his nose to give him that classic drunk/cold look but it did not show up on the pics :( but it looks really good 'in real life'. All these old minis seem to have sad/wise expressions which are very fun to paint.
Here he is, let me know what you think:

He has cool little features like studded leather armour, a little pouch,a dagger, man I love painting these old minis.
Cheers,
Damien

I remember when the Heritage Dungeon Dwellers were The State Of The Art minis on the block...later Reaper reissued them, along with their own pieces, as part of their initial offering. Your rendition of the Little Guy is OUTSTANDING. You managed to capture his personality perfectly...considering how small he is that's no mean accomplishment. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Looking good, the heritage Gnomes are some of my favorite gnomes ever.
-
The gnome is great and you should post the Chronicle fig to the Lost Minis Wiki and there is a blank spot for that fig.

Nice work Damien. That mini has stood the test of time hasn't it. Still looks like a dwarf to me though :)
-
hes ace! lots of character!
-
Really nice model considering the age. He'd fit in quite happilky with stuff sculpted 15 years later! Nice one. :-*
-
Thanks for all the comments guys!
Hi DeafNala, I would like to find some more somewhere, these guys have that old Basic D&D feel to them. Isn't there a website that still sells these guys, some guy bought the molds and sells minis part time or something; I'll have to look it up.
Hi Imp522, thanks for the comment, I agree with you, these guys have uber character. Btw, nice Beatmen warband.
Thanks Spooktalker, love your thread, I'll take a look at how to post the Chronicle mini, you don't think his face is too 'soft' to post though (his nose is almost none existant)?
Hey beefcake, thanks for the comment, to be honest with you dwarves, gnomes they are interchangeable to me (miniature wise anyway :-I) But they are fun to paint so I don't care lol
Thanks majorsmith!
Hello stone-cold-lead, thanks for the encouragement, I (as well as everyone else) am loving your bretonnian thread, now I want to buy some Citadel/Foundry knights.
Thanks again for taking the time to comment,
Damien

Reaper only kept the range going until their own minis were nicely established; then they sold of the molds & production rights to some outfit out West. I wish I could remember who they sold them to, but that was quite some time ago...at least 15 or so years ago.
-
Hi DeafNala, here is the webpage/shop I was talking about:
http://www.classicminiatures.net/
It seems that the minis can still be bought along with a lot of other OOP molds. I think I am going to contact the person that runs it and see about some pricing.
Damien
Edit: Had the wrong website.

I see you've been busy in my abscence. Looks great bro! I'm back in the saddle again so to speak. lol

Hello lads and gals, last week I painted a Heritage miniature Gnome. On his base, he was date stamped to 1973! <snip>
Glenn: I have a bunch of those figures to rebel against the Dwarf Overlords in my alternate fantasy world. Dwarves won, Gnomes and Hobbits were allies become oppressed minorities, Elves (recently emancipated - very controversial - are 3rd class citizens and small rebellions pop up regularly, and the few humans not exterminated are small bands of "Barbarians" forced to be nomadic to hide/survive. Dwarves are not monolithic though so there are stress/fracture lines showing in the " Underground Dwellers Union" People's Monarchy...
Here he is, let me know what you think:

<snip>
So, so well done!
Gracias,
Glenn

It is so good to see you back Faust!! Thanks for the positive comments.
Thank you Conquistador, he was a real joy to paint, I am really happy you like him.
Thanks chaps,
Damien
-
Lovely work on the little fella and no mistake! 8)
-
Thanks Thantsants!
-
He looks really good, Damien. The eyes look great!
-
Thanks Princess! Your knights are turning out great, can't wait to see them all painted up.

Hello everyone, this week I present to you a Grenadier miniature from a Dungeons & Dragons boxed set called 'Fighting Men' from the 80's. He is about 25mm but a little chunkier than true 25mm minis. The yellow on his shield is my first attempt at yellow ever! Back in the day the only yellow available was 'sunburst yellow' from GW and you had to be a very brave individual to use it (it was horrible). In an odd quirk of inspiration I started with bleached bone and started adding yellow (deep yellow from vallejo) and it turned into a deep/rich yellow!
Anyways, here he is, I really enjoyed painting him and have a few more in line:

The last pic is a size comparison pic with a 90's Grenadier miniature, the pics didn't turn out as well as I would of liked; it is an ongoing struggle with pic taking. Here is a link if you are interested in the old Grenadier boxed sets: http://www.dndlead.com/Grenadier/2000s.htm
Thanks for looking,
Damien

Tasty shizzle bro! I love that series of minis. If you give yellow another stab, keep it like you have it. Too many people use electric yellow and it doesn't ever look right to me.
I'm a fan of GW's old Bubonic Brown or Vallejo's Dunkelgelb colors. As you know, I can't paint anything 'electric'. It's not in my DNA. lol
-
Thanks for the comments Faust, I like the minis a lot too, there is just something about them. No electric colours here, I am trying to think what else I should paint yellow; maybe a Bretonnian knight on a horse or something.
Cheers,
Damien
-
Looks great Damien! The yellow on the shield turned out really well ... Yellow is a pain in the neck to paint!
-
Looking good. That box of Grenadier Fighting Men is on my painting to do list... behind about 1000 other projects unfortunately.
The green ties the two figures together nicely.
-
Hello Princess, thanks for the comment, as per yellow, try doing what I did and use bleached bone as a base. I then shaded the bleached bone with a little Ogryn flesh wash, then started adding small amounts of deep yellow to the bleached bone.
Hi m4jumbo, all those little guys look good, even that odd kicking guy lol
Thanks for the comments,
Damien
-
Really lovely looking! :)
-
Thanks Suber, loving your futurama thread!
Damien
-
Great!!! Love it!!
-
Looks great! I've got that guy on the to-do list as well.
For a long time I only had Sunburst Yellow, and I found that you can make the yellow a bit richer by mixing in a little bit of GW Flesh Wash. Too much turns it orange, but a little bit adds a nice warm glow.
-
You did a FINE job transforming a truly ugly mini into a little treasure. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Thanks einarolafson, I appreciate the feedback.
Hey Patrick, ah the good old Flesh Wash, I still have a bottle of it here, it fell out of favour when I discovered Ogryn flesh; maybe I should revisit it.
Hi DeafNala, I love how you hate most of the early Grenadier sculpts (skeletons etc) lol, yet can still make me feel good; your comments are always the most innovative and appreciated :D
Thanks for the comments guys,
Damien
-
The Fighting man turned out quite well.
-
Thanks Imp, I find he looks better 'in real life' vs. the picture but I think we are all struggling with camera issues.
Cheers,
Damien
-
Damien, you have done some really impressive work on some old forgotten miniatures!
It is nice to see a little love and attention being spent on them.
:-*
-
Thanks for the comments aggro,I really appreciate them. As I already mentioned in your thread, I love your old chaos dwarves.

Thanks for the tip, Damien. I hadn't seen this, but I painted yellow on another knight the other day and I used Iyanden Darksun as a base; being a foundation paint, it has good coverage and doesn't show the undercoat. I used Gryphone Sepia for shading and highlighted with watered down Golden Yellow and then loghtened it withSunburst Yellow, also watered down quite a bit. Turned out quite well, I think.
Always good to swap tips! Might try your combination later on for a lighter, creamier yellow. Looks nice :)
-
Loving it all! I still haven't gone through each page yet, but everything I've seen has so much character. We have a few of the minis you've done and it's incredible the depth you've managed to squeeze out of figures that I think look like lumps of lead (when they were unpainted, of course) if I'm more than a foot away.
Great job with the yellow too! I agree with everyone how difficult that is to get "natural". As you can see in my banner, we use it for VIVID detailing.
I'm a huge Nick Lund Orc fan (as you might be able to tell). The exaggerated facial features that he uses are lots of fun to paint. Were the goblins the same way? My husband has talked me into trying Lund's Fantasy Warriors battlesystem. It just seems a natural thing to do with a horde of orcs. :)
Enjoying your oldies and goodies,
Jev
-
Nice work there Damien - good yellow indeed!
-
Thanks for the comments guys (and gals)!
@ princess, I really like how your yellow turned out, I think I'll try your recipe soon.
Hello Jevenkah, thanks for the comments, I took a turn around your blog and enjoyed looking at the pics and reading about your campaign. I really like all of Mr. Lund's sculpts but think that his Orcs, Hobgoblins and Ogres are especially inspired. Let us know how Fantasy Warriors plays (with lots of pics of all those great minis).
Thanks Thantsants, really enjoying your entries in the league.
Cheers all,
Damien
-
Hey, nice to see that Grenadier norman, I like it quite a bit! I painted that one not too long ago myself. The copplestone knight is also great.

Thanks for the welcome and your interest & compliments on the blog. I will post how well I like Fantasy Warriors when we start. If it's really fun and we deem it fitting, we might use it to determine outcomes of battles that our PCs aren't directly involved in.
Can't wait for your next trip down memory lane,
Jev

Thanks for the comments Spooktalker, I am obviously a big fan of your thread.
Hi Jevenkah, I am very curious about the rules and really want to see how they work, I think they are a free download somewhere aren't they?
Cheers,
Damien

Sweet! Thanks Imp.

Palomino's are my favorite to paint.

Hello everyone, I haven't posted in a while, I am getting ready for a move. I will be moving from Edmonton Alberta to Montreal Quebec (back home), I lived in Edmonton for three years (for school) and am finally going home. I am going to be driving over 3000km in a loaded mini van with a U Haul trailer, my girlfriend and my dog. Due to the move I haven't painted anything in a while and haven't been visiting the LAF; keep up the awesome posts and when I get settled in Montreal I'll be sure to come back with some updates.
Thank you all for making this the greatest forum on the web.
Kind regards,
Damien
-
Enjoy the trip; AND be well & happy until next we meet.
-
Safe travels bro!
We'll keep the fires burning until your return. ;)

Keep your brushes pointy :D
