Another commission underway here. The Infinity Op Icestorm set and starting off with the Pan Oceania side of things. Really nice models and I've finally popped my Infinity cherry so to speak. Looking at the models online they always struck me as quite daunting but they're not quite as scary as I was expecting. That said, they are a bit time consuming to assemble, especially some of the fiddly bits like helmet sensor vanes. They're taking a bit longer to work through than I first thought as well but I'm happy with the end results.

Amazing work.
-
Your super clean style works perfectly with these minis. Fantastic.
-
Beautiful work on some fiddley figures!
-
www! Lovely Stuff!
-
Amazing paint work. Far beyond what I can do for sure.
-
That's not stone cold, that's ice cold. 8)
-
Sha-mazing! 8) 8) 8)
I would love to see you do a tutorial some day!!
-
Brilliant. :D
-
Brilliant!
-
Really, really nice.
I like the official Infinity paintjobs, but I LOVE yours!
-
Two of my favourite painters now do Infinity. I think I prefer the slightly more 'military' look you achieve.
-
Thanks for the comments everyone. :)
Slowly getting there with these.
-
Perfect as usual. Hope to get the chance to make a workshop with you and learn something
-
Great work as always. I love the in between photo - it is really interesting to see how your layering progresses in pictures on one of these pieces.
-
Your making me regret offering my gf the pan o half of ice storm.
-
Awesome job. I prefer these to the studio painting for sure.
-
Thanks for the comments everyone. This set is very nearly done, I just need to paint the base edges. Normally a very quick job but I have to add LOS markers to these. More pics to follow. Just in case, the insignia isn't freehand! I printed some decals and over painted them to fix them up.

Simply stunning. :D
-
Beautiful paintwork! But the again we'd expect nothing less from you!
-
Gorgeous!
:-* :-* :-*
I have grown used to seeing your wonderful use of greys and fleshtones but now you take it to another level with that vivid blue.
Stunning!

Amazing work on those figures; love the blue!

Again I should point out that the insignia are just decals. I did have to over paint them but just colouring them in isn;t quite the same as doing freehand. ;)
I tweaked the settings on my camera a bit for these photo's as I'd been having trouble recently getting things into focus and depth of field has always been a problem. I have to thank Agis in a roundabouts way as he'd mentioned in another thread something about changing the lense aperture to improve depth of field and that nudged me into getting my camera manual out. Probably should have read that short paragraph months ago when I bought the damn camera! lol
Sometime after Christmas I'll be tackling the Nomad portion of the Icestorm set.
-
Excellent :-* :-* :-*
I think that blue is the best I've seen 8)

Epic.
Not my cup of tea for the figures in the main - although i do like the toopers in the first batch.
Everyone is going on about the blue - which is very well done, but what blows me away is the smoothness of shading and the tones in the cream and moss kinda colours of their cloth. You could paint me an army in those colours any day!
-
That leather mini-cape deserves some notice too.
-
Fantastic paintjobs, as usual. Really, really good blues.
-
Stunningly good. I agree with Brandlin, the trousers are excellent and really stand out (difficult when everything is so good!).
-
Beautiful figures, and beautiful painting. :D

I agree with Brandlin here. The blues are lovely, but the cream and other neutral colours are even better! :-*
-
True, but for me blue is the hardest color to do good. And when I see these paintjobs, it's the blues which really baffle me :)
-
Thanks again for the comments everyone.
True, but for me blue is the hardest color to do good. And when I see these paintjobs, it's the blues which really baffle me :)
Blue can be one of those colours that's tricky to highlight smoothly. I kept it nice and simple here though. A base coat of Vallejo Extra Opaque Heavy Blue with VMC Light Green Blue added for highlights. The good thing with these models is there aren't huge single areas that need painting (like on a space marine for example) where subtle layering is needed. Small areas with lots of edges and little bits of detail are much quicker to paint up and you can rely more on the sharp edge highlighting to make things 'pop' (not that these models were quick to do though ;) ).
The off-white colours, for those interested were VMC Medium Grey highlighted with VMC Silvergrey (the cream coloured areas) and VMC Light Green Blue highlighted with VMC Silvergrey (the whiter areas).
-
Exceptional painting level!!!!! :o
-
Indeed, amazing eye candy. I can't wait to see how the Nomads will turn out, assuming that you will work on them that is. :)
-
WOW! Excellent paint job.
Very clean and smooth!
-
Finally working through the Nomad faction of the set. First four done bar the bases, three more to go. Lots more Infinity stuff in the to do pile.

:o :o :o
Stunning work!
-
Yep, I'd rather look at these than the Corvus Belli's studio paintjobs.
Awesome.
-
Same here! Insanely smooth transitions and a great paint scheme.
-
Missed this earlier, fantastic painting!
I've got to get some photos of my Haqqislam Infinity force that's just about finished.
CB does really nice figures, don't they?
-
WOW!! :o :o :o :o
it just shows the level of detail you go to on your painted figs that you can see the guys scalp through his dreadlocks! !
-
Glad I missed this thread earlier, otherwise I'd not dared to paint my own Infinity minis. Superbly done. :-*
I take it you're not using an airbrush? The smooth blending is outstanding, and I would love to see an illustrated tutorial just for that.
EDIT: Forgot to add, I really like the facing markings, might steal that idea.
-
wow, just wow!
:o
-
Phenomenal :o .
The red and Blue-Grey go so well together. True pieces of art, every figure a mini masterpiece. :-*
-
oh my... :o
I second the notion they are better than the studio jobs. Superb.
-
Good grief. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :-* :o 8)

Related question: Are the Icestorm figs noticeably larger/heftier than previous Infinity sculpts?
I'm asking because the last several new sculpts I purchased are definitely on the 'heroic 32mm' side. Is this a temporary bump or a trend to larger figs?
-

I think all the models I've got here are more recent ones but I'm sure I read somewhere that these later sculpts are a lot bigger than the earlier stuff. I hope I've not got that info wrong!
Thanks for the comments everyone. :)
-
Lovely painting mucker.
I wouldn't say they're better than the studio pjs, they're as good as but they're very different in style, and I also prefer them.
Giraldez and co seem to go for maximum 'bling', which I don't find very attractive. These have got a great comic book vibe which appeals to me more.
@Denatus.
The figs have gone through three phases in my opinion. The early ones were pretty big with quite exagerated proportions. They then became more realistically proportioned but smaller. These new ones are realistically proportioned but bigger again. They don't look out of place next to the old ones, but they dwarf some of the intermediate figs. The infinity line has always been very inconsistant in terms of scale, very annoying. They're now doing everything on computers so hopefully it be more consistant from now on.
If you can be bothered, have a look at this thread on the subject, it's got some good photos comparing the sizes

Loving these new folks. Echoing hubbabubba's comment too, about these having more stylization. Not better or worse than the studio jobs, but yours and the studio jobs are both at a very high level of craft.

Quick image dump as I should be cooking a Valentine's Day dinner. Job done with this set. Yes, that is an over painted decal ;)

I'd like to see these in person. Superhuman crispness!

Unbelievably gorgeous.

Stunning!! :-* :-* :-* :-*
Quick question, how do you achieve that smooooothness? Is it many, many, many layers or is it all to do with glazes?

I'm not sure how many layers I generally use but it's not a ridiculous amount. It does vary from one colour to another though. It's more about how the paint is applied. I tend to feather and crosshatch the edges of the layers which blends them into one another. It can be pretty harsh on brushes though so I get through them at quite a rate. Once I get myself sorted out for doing video it's something I'll be able to better show.
-
A video of your work would fantastic.
-
Thanks SCL!
-
Wow insanely good painting skills on display. Awesome colour choices as well just stunning level of quality.
-
These are stunning, but I'm just in love with the Nomad ones! :-*
-
I've finally got around to doing some more pieces for this commission. A handful of Nomads and a couple of civilians, which I think are my favourites as they're a bit different to all the other models.

Still more in the 'to do' pile (I really should check that big box to see what exactly is in it!).
-
Astonishing, really. The tights on the civilian are unbelievably smooth.
What do the base markings represent?
-

It's just a way of showing the forward 180 degree LOS. I don't tend to care for base markings but the client requested something to aid in gameplay. :)

The painting on those is so smooth. Good stuff.

:-* :-* :-* wow,

You are demotivatingly skilled. lol Wonderful work, ad usual!

Loving your work sir!! :o :o :o :o

Fantastic work!

Just read through this thread for the first time. What a joy to see. Your painting is absolutely amazing.
I gave up trying to figure out who my favorite painter years ago, but Stone Cold Lead has always been in the running. I find the Infinity figures intimidating as hell, but your painting makes me want to give it a try anyway. I may never make a figure look as good, but I'd love to try.

I found them horribly daunting before I actually started work on them. I think the studio paint jobs really make them seem an intimidating prospect. They are still a bit of a time sink though especially when you include assembly and clean up. It was a welcome change to move onto some Bob Murch pulp stuff after doing these. ;)
Thanks for the comments everyone. :)
-
Stunning work :o :-*
-
Stunning stuff - I like it all so much, I'm not sure where to begin with the praise!
In no particular order, I especially like:
- The unit logos
- The "feel" of the Hellcat paintjobs (which I think help the models look a bit more heavyweight)
- GoGo Marlene's boots (which I usually see done as stockings, but which look really good as Fashionista thigh-highs).
-
Awesome and stunning as always.
Grimm

Wowza :-* :-* :-*
cheers

You really make these sculpts shine. Awesome and stunning indeed.

Another batch of models done. More Nomads here. A quick group shot to show just how big the battle suit is.

It's from the Iguana Squad set.

Zoe & II-Well her little goof-bot.

And finally Moran, Maasai Hunter and a pair of Crazy Koalas.
I love the dumb little bots from these last two sets. They're goofy and rather silly but are so much fun.
-
Goodness me, they look amazing! :-*
Also, probably the best-painted Zoe I've seen to date - your effort even makes the model look rather nice!

Yeah, I agree... I think the Nomads have a fair few of these actually, including some with little jump-packs. :)
-
Wow! I'm in awe! These are unbelievably well painted! Your painting style really shines on those.
-
Bloody lovely!
-
Very sharp work :)
A great addition to your growing ranks.
-
Just more stunned.
thanks for sharing. great work.

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

Sadly not my ranks. These will be off to the other side of the world sometime this week.
-
Wowzers, those are absolutely stunning. Especially love the TAG, you often see them airbrushed and it's great to see a brushed one at this level 8)
-
I can't fathom how you accomplish that level of clarity and smoothness.
-
Wow!.....just wow! :o
-
Every work of yours somehow manages to go a step beyond o_o. I've spent minutes and minutes wallowing in your pics. Amazing as always.
-
Such excellent painting. I do enjoy seeing non airbrushed Infinity figures. I love your use of the tan in the Nomads paint scheme so much I am going to adopt it in my Nomads. Thanks for sharing and influencing.

Ugh why oh why did I look at this thread after picking up my Icestorm box. These paintjobs are so good! Your skill is both admired and hated at the same time. Or perhaps envied would be a more appropriate adjective.
Excellent stuff.

A few more more bits to go with the Nomad forces here. Painted these last year just before Christmas.

Wow, you're not making it any easier for me to start on my stuff.
I'm already kinda daunted by those models.
Lovely models. Absolutely bloody gorgeous.

wonderful :-* :-*, inspirational work thanks for sharing

Liking the reds and the inner glowy stuff. Very tron. Will steal that if/when I ever get round to my Infinity stuff.

I agree with the Tron bit, although you'd need to remove the weapons, which looks quite ackward!
Wow! Amazing stuff Mr lead! How do you like the infinity miniatures? I'm planning on getting a few Haqqislam bikers for a gang for my 2000AD project and swithering on spending about £100 for only 5 bikers.
-

I'd say Infinity stuff is nice to look at. A lot of work to paint up but satisfying when done.
Assembly is a pain in the arse. Too many parts, sometimes an unnecessary number of parts. Did that Bounty Hunter model really need to come in 5 pieces? Could it have been designed better to reduce the part count maybe to two or three pieces? There can be some very small or delicate parts as well that without pinning will probably come loose long before the model gets anywhere near the gaming table. Those pieces can also be very difficult if not impossible to pin. I'm working on some more drone type things at the moment and they come in six to nine pieces depending on the weapon options chosen. Every piece needed pinning together and at least two sensor vanes are the type of thing that are tricky to pin and are still liable to be easily knocked loose. Had to fix one yesterday after it broke loose when I picked the model up for undercoating! Models like the drones also don't have any solid means of attaching them to a base. The two shown above had to have brass rod stuck into the body work to pin into the base which I don't care for. The ones I'm doing now have just enough of a contact surface to pin thankfully but it was fiddly work and yet again more pinning. Better design could have made that a lot easier. A simple peg moulded onto the ends of the 'feet' of the above drones would have made them easy to fit to a base, but why would anyone think of doing that?!
These models are all commission pieces. I was tempted in the past by some of the sculpts but found them a bit daunting from a painting point of view. Popped my Infinity cherry a while back now but personally I won't be buying any for myself.
-
Thanks for that! I'll maybe just buy one and try it first before I buy a whole squad.
-
Would you be willing to share your technique for the glow effect? It's exceedingly well done.
-
Fantastic Job!
-
Those are jaw-droppingly good paint jobs :-*
-

I'm a bit hit and miss with it to be honest. It came out pretty well on the Interventors though. It's basically VGC Falcon Turquiose highlighted with VGC Ghost Grey and white. The trick is blending some of the blue-ish colour into the surrounding colours. Mixing into greys and blacks is easy (-ish) but I still need to wrap my head around how to do it best with other colours. I know that's not much of an explanation though.
Thanks for comments everyone. :)

Got another drone pretty much finished. Pictured next to the Merc for scale.

Liking the new drone.
Can I make a suggestion with the light thing? (God! I feel like the guy that told Michelangelo he missed a spot on the chapel ceiling!) The lighting works for these because they look like they're from Tron. If you want to make OSL work, the glow from the light source should never be as bright as the light itself. Keep white highlights on the light source but don't go nearly as white on the reflections. It's a contrast thing, the light should be the brightest painted thing on the model.

I know what you mean. I've done a few things and got it 'right', other things have come off looking ok but not spot on. I really just need more time to practice the whole OSL thing to ensure I get it right more often. :)

stone-cold-lead, your style and skill really match these miniatures.

Just the usual clean up and spray undercoat. No magic involved. ;)
Sorry for the double post. Usually LAF times out when I try to post pics and somewhere between long waiting times and frantic button clicks it all went wrong.
-
Such a pleasure to follow this amazing thread. I much prefer your paintjobs to the studio ones; both great and way beyond my own skills, but yours don't have that "artsy" attitude. Which I like. :)
-
Amazing work. Your style is so smooth and clean it's like it was Taylor made for this kind of sci fi. I think the infinity painters are some of the best in the business but these easily match those and may even surpass them.
-
Another little update here. After bulking out the Nomad forces I was finally given free reign to pick and choose what to do next so I thought it would be nice to add a few reinforcements to the Pan O troops I did ages ago. There's another set of Fusiliers, an Indigo Spec-Ops trooper and another Akalis Sikh Commando.

Easily some of the nicest Infinity models I have seen to date.
I am also not keen on the overly arty paint jobs I keep seeing. These are perfect!
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Lovely painting: the armour almost glows and the skin tones are beautifully blended.
It's a shame, though, that such expensive minis should have such a limited range of dollies. It's most obvious with the women ("Regulation 45b: All female fusiliers must keep one foot on a box at all times"), but the two male figures in the same group shot both have exactly the same body too: they haven't even bothered to rearrange the baggage.
