30K pics from Historicon
« on: 23 July 2017, 01:07:30 AM »
Here are links to some pics of our two Horus Heresy games at Historicon.  They were just pick up games so no amazing terrain set-ups or anything like that but they were pretty fun.

Before anyone asks, the World Eaters won.  :)

We used 3rd edition rules mostly with the Zone Mortalis rules from the Betrayal book.

These games weren't confusing at all.  The Loyalists were all in MKIV battleplate, they had a chaplain and a heavy bolter squad.

The Traitor vets were in MKIII battleplate, the rampagers were rampagers and the red butchers were red butchers.  The termies were termies.  It was pretty cut and dried despite them all being in the same colours.

Didn't get a chance to see this in action.
Loving the 30k action when i see it.
Where is the terrain from?

Looks beautiful. Any idea how this sort of game plays? I wonder if it might just descend into a scrum, a dice rolling exercise, which would be a shame given how good it looks?

The key is having multiple objectives.  We had a scrum at one point, but that was after we had two hallway long gun battles in two different directions, an attempted assault by heavy infantry that was decisively repulsed and a squad consolidating on the objectives.

The scenarios laid out in the Zone Mortalis games are pretty good.  We usually add a little bit to them to give them more narrative flavour but they work as games.

I just ordered more rooms from Fantasy Arc yesterday so I'll get those done up as soon as they get in and we'll have an even better looking table.

I think your terrain looks fantastic personally! I especially like the colors - any issues painting the MDF? And what kind of paint did you use? Were weathering powders used? Apologies for all the questions  ;D I've had zero luck getting a good result with painting MDF.
