Spell Cards: Good News!
« on: September 07, 2017, 11:43:07 AM »
I'm REALLY pleased to be able to post this...

From the Frostgrave Facebook group

***

Over years of research and experimentation, a wizard’s library can grow to an incredible size, comprising hundreds of scrolls, parchments, and spell-books. More if they follow the path of the Sigilist. Keeping track of all this information often requires the exploitation of loyal apprentices, arcane filing systems, and, from time-to-time, hiring a band of mercenary librarians.

We are very happy to FINALLY be able to announce that Spell Cards are coming back! In Spring 2018, we will be releasing The Grimoire – the complete resource for a Frostgrave wizard. This boxed set of Spell Cards will include all the spells published in Frostgrave supplements, up to and including the forthcoming Maze of Malcor book. We’ll keep you updated!

Excellent.

Can I ask, will they have a spot for putting a wizard's (and apprentice's?) current casting level on?

Officially, no - they're not wipe-clean, so writing on them would ruin the cards! Unofficially, laminate a set or pop them into a clear card sleeve, and there's room (though not a dedicated space) on nearly all the cards (space is a premium on a couple) to make your own notes.

I'm looking forward to the Grimoire and the new XP system and campaign of the Maze of Malcor. Good thing we keep getting Frozen Frostgrave stuff :P

Yes, this is great news indeed! As a late comer to the game, I was shocked I couldn't acquire a set of the spell cards..... sold out everywhere..... now I am happy. I have gotten into the game and am loving it.

Sounds like an excellent idea, looking forward to the 'mercenary librarians' storming the shelves. As we have changed the XP system I will be interested to how that goes. We give no XP for wizards killed of the same school, half for the rest and full for rival schools. Plus a few other minor changes. Wanted to make it more about the treasure and less total war. Even if it does sometimes end in slaughter for both sides  :D.

Will these be the same size as the old ones? I recall it was previously said spells from the expansions wouldn't work as cards due to the lengthy descriptions some had (as I can easily imagine!).

Cool- Now that I know the system is going to be supported I feel WAY more comfortable purchasing some of the other supplements.

Yes - we've redesigned them a bit to make more of the available space. Some will still be tight, and we're looking at solutions (that don't include dropping the font size to unreadable levels!). A couple of the most extreme examples may be presented as abridged versions, with a page reference to provide a quick back-trace if required.

I'm not sure I follow, I'm afraid - the system has been supported BY the supplements, no?

Extremely helpful! I just started playing and printed the cheap looking cards off their website for free and cut them out, but without lamentation they won't last long.
