Here's a not great pic of the 12/13th century shields.  Measured and they range from 12mm to 15mm long.

Thank you everyone.
Some great answers here, I'll most likely end up with a combination of manufacturer and self-made ones.

I've  already started with attaching orc and elven glyphs to buttons, and it works great.
i also have a friend who "commutes" between UK and Canada so I ordered a bunch of shields from EM4 miniatures with free shipping to his British address.
I might post some pictures as I progress with more

EDIT to add: I'll also end up having some 3d printed ones from a friend who was kind enough to offer to print some for me  as well as making some out of wood and plasticard

One option for a more "viking" round shield style is to grab some of the small bases from WizKids, a friend of mine convinced me to help him painting a few of their things of them since he wants to do a guard tower with the different shields all over the walls with various designs.

Round shields are the one I have the most of.
Viking, early medieval, greek, with or without umbo as well as all the dwarf ones and those made from buttons.

Kite, pavise, tower, triangular  heater etc, on the other hand, are somewhat of a rare commodity around my bits. but I have a few on the way plus some I plan on making myself

card stock works well.  cut to preference and a bit of pvc glue for bosses.
