AB Miniatures 18mm Napoelonic Robustness
« on: 13 June 2023, 02:22:55 AM »
I haven't bought any in a long time. Are the muskets and bayonets still fragile? Does anyone have any recent experience with them?

Their quality is hard to resist but before I jump in, I wanted to hear about any unusual longevity issues.

Having just started Naps and WW2 using AB Figures, there are some bayonets and even muskets that are delicate and can easily bend when handled without care by players.

A thin coating of superglue is my go to cure, there can be a slight loss of detail if it goes on too thick so I use a cocktail stick or pin to apply it.

I did get to paint some of Tony Barton’s original Battle Honours figures back in the mid ‘80’s for the then owner Danny Boreham(?) and we used Araldite (2 part epoxy resin) that was warmed up so that it became a liquid and applied a thin coating.

My ACW are 15mm Blue Moon and their first outing with my old gaming group saw many bayonets and barrels bent when i came to pack the figures away 🤬.

Cheers,

To be honest, I'm not that much of a fan of AB, and one of the reason is the fragility of the bayonets. I prefer Campaign Games for my napoleonics and only use AB to add more variety with officers and such things.

I’ve gotten heavily into AB for my French Revolution wars, and haven’t experienced any issues at all.
