28mm Cryptids?
« on: June 01, 2024, 02:13:17 PM »
I’m trying to get a small collection of miniatures together for an X-Files style project, and I need some 28mm cryptids for my characters to hunt. Preferably, the classics (Bigfoot, Mothman, etc) but I’d take anything relatively cryptid like.

Also, any 28mm characters with dart guns/crossbows/animal nets would be nice too.

Reaper have a Sasquatch in their Chronoscope range (link). Grey aliens & a Chupacabra too.

North Star have a bunch of critters that may be of use in their Dracula’s America range.

You often find Horrorclix cryptids on resale sites. For example https://www.ebay.co.uk/b/bn_7024890257

If you have or have access to a 3d printer then there are lots of files on Cults3d, thingiverse, etsty etc.

If not ebay and other sites, have a fair number of sellers of prints too.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/16486/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=cryptid

Antediluvian has a couple packs that might fit the bill.
Sasquatches here: https://antediluvianminiatures.wordpress.com/2016/09/26/shop-lost-world-range/
A very cryptid looking mermaid and some Mictlan zombies here:  https://antediluvianminiatures.wordpress.com/2019/03/27/shop-conquistadors-of-mictlan/
Some medieval daemons that might fit the bill too:  https://antediluvianminiatures.wordpress.com/2017/12/03/shop-medieval-demons/

Studio miniatures did Daryl from The Walking Dead, not sure who has him now. Checking post apocalypse ranges in general is worthwhile, such the Warlord zombie survivors. I have converted figues by cutting away a rifle and swapping in a crossbow, as well as doing hand and arm swaps.

Some dart guns are very rifle-like, so you may not have to do anything.

Not sure about nets. GW goblins and dark eldar could work for parts, but it's not something I remember seeing a lot of.

Pulp Figures have a figure with a big butterfly net, but I suspect that might not be ideal for catching a Sasquatch.
Back from the dead, almost.

In the 'other' category, RAFM still does their Call of Cthulhu range.

Too weird?

I know the figs can be small, but a small or oversized Deep One can usually be made to fit. Though, for a Deep One, werewolf or the like, there's always old Mage Knight...

The old Studio miniatures zombie hunters line is carried by Hayland Terrain now.

The best (i.e. most 'Patterson-Gimlin film like') Sasquatch are definitely the Reaper big foot & the Antediluvian one.
There are a couple of 3D printed cryptids out there (wendigo by the boat load, think I have seen Mothman too)

For Dogman, most werewolf lines would readily work.
There are various Wendigo options out there, ranging from more closely aligned to indigenous myth to the modern perception.
A few of the various ghoul ranges might work for the Rake.
Crucible Crush and Paymaster Games do various creatures from indigenous myth.
Dracula's America has already been mentioned but would be a good one-stop-shop

Sadly, Antediluvian Miniatures' rather splendid Nessie is currently listed as "out of stock".
