Legends of the high seas

Any of you guys play it?

I do play it. And I like it.

I love Mordheim, especially the campaign system with Heroes and experience, so naturally I enjoy the Legends games as well. Whether you like it or not probably depends on whether you like the Lord of the Rings game engine; I know people who consider it to be too random. I like it as a welcome change from other systems.

LOTOW and LOTHS are pretty much the same

fast and easy rules. my main concerns is the Hand-to-Hand.
too much of a head or tail test
the shooting is simple too but suits my taste better

I had lots of fun with the 'legend of...' serie (old west and high seas)
I find it is a good rule with some weak points but still funny

For a one shot purchase and if you like pirates etc I would go for LOTHS, It has a huge list of random characters so you can play land based games very easily and include natives, highwaymen etc. Almost the same mechanisms as LOTOW (Almost Identical) but for me has a lot more going for it.

I have OTOW and it is pretty good but you will find yourself needing all the supplements if you want different posses etc

Keep an eye out on e-bay the rules pop up quite often so that would be my tip

Personally, I would go for LOTHS in this instance, as there are rules for ships, artillery etc and the scenarios and ready-made characters are more relevant - assuming you are doing pirates, of course.

As the others have said, the basic mechanisms are pretty much the same and can be used for virtually any 16th-19thC skirmish games (with a few additional rules added).

Whichever you pick they are a sound and simple system which gives a lot of fun

I bought LotOW first, but was working on a gaggle of pirates.  Then I got into LotHS, and for some reason didn't finish my pirates, but instead started assembling a posse of Mexican banditos.  I need help.

Ultimately, you should have both.  While a couple of the supplements for LotOW are good, they're not necessary, especially when you're first starting.  The main book gives you plenty to work with.

I have them both. I have played LOTOW alot, we used to have a campaign going at the game store we meet at. I got LOTHS when it first came out and have only played it a few times. Mostly because we haven't been gaming as much lately. Like them both, they are pretty much the same game with different settings.
