Stat Test
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:41:54 PM »
Hope it's OK to post rule questions here. First, I ordered last Friday, and got them yesterday (Monday). Way to go Lon from Brigade, on the fast service!
Okay, here's the question. In the rules it says:"For some situations, a model will be asked to make a stat (Smarts, Knowledge, etc.) test. In order to pass the test, a model must roll 2d6 and add the required ability to the result. If the total is 12 or higher, than (I think it supposed to be "then") the stat test is passed. If it is lower, then the test failed"
OK simple enough, that makes since. But then the example throws me off:
"Example: Mike's 8th Avenue Greaser Leader need to make a Smarts test. This model has a Smarts of 5. Mike rolls a 2d6 and the result is a 6 so he passes (5 + 6= 11). If he had rolled less than 5, the test would have failed"
All right, I thought "12" was number we were lucking for. And anything but was a failure, not 5 or below. Little help?

Gah! My mistake. I changed the original rules from 10 to 12. I missed the example.

Damn. I'm embarrassed now.  :-X

Guess I need to start the FAQ.

So 12 is the target? What about the 5 thing. Is everything a miss if it isn't 12?

The figures 'smarts' is already 5, so he needs to roll at least 5 (obviously it now needs to be 7) to reach the magic number.

Correct Jim. His Smarts of 5 means he needs a 7 to make 12.

Sorry, one more question. OK now that I 've got the Stat Test down, later on in the book, especially in the driving section it refers to making checks by rolling 2d6 and getting under your Smarts. Which is it? Roll 2d6 and adding Stat, trying to get a 12, or rolling under a stat?

Ignore the "under your Smarts" in driving. It's a Smarts test.
