Black powder question
« on: 10 October 2010, 07:38:10 PM »
I'm thinking of basing my units for black powder, i haven't bought the book but I'm tempted to buy it. Because I haven't bought the book yet I have some questions.

There are several infantry unit size types tiny-small-large, etc (how many soldiers do they each contain)?

Same for cavalry, artillery, ...

Greets and thanks in advance

I've played a game or two of Black powder. I wasn't aware that there was any specific kind of basing required.

Hi Belgian,
I've played a lot of BlackPowder over the last 6 months.

Chairface is right - base your figures how you want. As for unit sizes - well the players decide that themselves and there are suggestions in the rulebook.
My ACW collection is 25mm and individually based - infantry units are 12 strong, cavalry are 8 and artillery are a gun, limber and 6 crew - which is about half the "recommended" unit sizes in the book. As long as everyone in your group agrees on the same convention then no problems.

The other thing I've changed is that there are no triple moves and double moves only happen on a command roll of 4 under the required score which seems to work well on a 5'x4' table with 25mm figs and no adjustments to move distances or ranges.

hope that helps

vT

Thanks for the answers, it's very useful to know that there aren't any basing rules! Up to the paintingtable and selling the rulebook!
