Warlord Zulu releases
« on: 28 October 2011, 09:47:33 AM »
These have just been announced on the Warlord site:

http://www.warlordgames.com/13904/preview-zulu/

I  had the pleasure of fighting over the buildings yesterday and can say without a shadow of a doubt that they are superb, they are nice and large, would certainly add gravitas to any colonial table and could be used in quite a few other environments too.

Have seen one or two Zulu plastics in the flesh andthey look quite nice, though as I'm not an expert on Zulus I can't comment on their accuracy.

Afraid I wasn't privilage to that info. What I can tell you is that they are very nicely made precision laser cut MDF kits that include punch through holes oin the walls - so you can have the walls solid or holed at your whim. Each building was at least 12" long by about 8-10" deep and with lots of barricades and stuff they were a very substantial pressence on the table.

I liked 'em a lot and I'm not easily impressed. Well, OK, I am easily impressed, I'm just a figure/terrain tart really!

MDF?  Gosh, I thought they were resin by the look.  These may well be cheap enought to use for other genres, then.

Of course, in hindsight, it says it on the picture.  do 4Ground do any other pieces?

Afraid I don't know what else 4Ground may do, sorry.

I'd say the buildings would have quite a lot of potential uses, especially if you had a variety of roofs for them - corrugated iron sheet, pan tiles, shingles etc. Very versatile especially as they have full interiors.

I'm going to stop now as I'm not being paid to advertise them  lol

I have to agree - those buildings look nice and have really great looking interior details!

MDF! To mis-quote the advert 'I can't believe it's not resin!' as the quality appears to be so good!

I should add to my earlier comments that the model I  have seen is the one in the photographs and was fully finished/painted as per that photo - I've not seen one "raw".

I'm assuming that all of the surface detail is laser etched into the MDF and that it is present in the kit rather than it being an added embelishment.

That seems similar to other current MDF buildings, without the fur roof it would do for other areas.  A lovely Zombie fight building, in particular.

I was also there for the game, Zulus are out in two weeks with 36 in a box for £18-20, plus some metal command. Brit regulars are out soon after, 20 in a box with metal command for the same price.

The Rourke's Drift is stunning, great level of detail, plus I am sure that the roof on at least one of the buildings comes with etched tiles, meaning would double for Peninsular or anywhere else such buildings were used - take away the teddy bear fur and you have two fairly generic, multi-functional buildings with internal walls, etc. Quite frankly, they are gorgeous and come in a box with 'bits' TBC. No, I do not work for Warlord but know quality when I see it! They would look great with Arcane Scenery's new MDF wagons scattered around as part of the barricades, at only £5 each, they are nice MDF bits of kit.

Even better, there is more of everything AZW to follow, thanks to the partnership with Empress and Warlord. Looks like next year is a Zulu War theme for me, just as soon as I've painted up my Shangani Patrol!

Great news!

I am just a little miffed, though, as my usual timing is in evidence.
Our group has decided to get into all things VSF, and three of us, myself included, decided that a British force is a must-have.
Even though there are plenty of factions, none of us could resist the Brits.
So we have all just spent tidy sums on some troops in metal, and these beauties appear!

I believe it is called 'Sod's Law'!

Still, they are going to be very useful for expanding our forces and terrific for conversions, so I guess we will all end up with some.
I hope that they add some cavalry as well, but as they are plastics, conversions should be simple enough.

That model of Rourkes Drift looks fantastic as well.
It looks very versatile and could easily be converted into numerous other possibilities.
Does anyone know of any more sources for pictures, or will I just have to put my 'patient' head on?
