Warlord/Empress Zulu War Plastics

Warlord Games and Empress Miniatures are very proud to announce a new hard plastic range for the 1879 Zulu War. The two companies have formed a partnership in order to pool our talents and resources on this project to create what we all believe will be a truly superb range of plastic figures designed to compliment Empress Miniatures current metal AZW range.

Some of you may have been quick enough to spot some examples of the three ups at Salute. These were the initial sculpts and since then more development has taken place to ensure that these figures will be the best around. As you can see from the accompanying photographs the range will include British Regulars, but do not fear as there will also be packs of both married and unmarried Zulus (we’ll show these off very soon!), as well as Natal Native Contingent.

Release date should be Autumn 2011 for the first boxed sets – we will keep you posted on the developments of this exciting

So, there you have it, Dave.  Will you be tempted?

I'm not loving those 3-ups, but I do like the metal Empress Zulu range, so these sound interesting. A sprue of useable plastics (as opposed to the worthless Wargames Factory ones) might come in very handy for VSF applications as well.

I quite liked the three ups I saw at Salute of the Zulus, so they are a possible addition to mix into Chief Bykelezi's force at some point, but not this year I'm afraid.

I have hopes! The arms don't seem to fit too well though in those shots...
So many projects..... so little time.......

I'm hoping these are very early WIPs. Judging by the quality of Empress's metal stuff, the finished items should be much better. I was very disappointed by the WF version, so I'm banking on these being a big improvement on them.

If so, I'm definitely saving up for as many boxes as possible  :D

Hopefully, there will be officers, etc, which will make it self contained, a great improvement on WF.  I assume that the three boxes of Africans will be generic, like their ECW/TYW, with extra bits to create the different types.

That would be nice - Shaka's wars of conquest would be fun to do  ;D

Nice, luckily I've only bought 1 box of both WF British and Zulu's! But I will probably use the WF British as naval infantry and the new plastics as regular army!

Though I very much welcome plastic Brits and Zulu's etc, if I'm to be honest, it's a case of waiting and seeing the quality at the end of the day.

I don´t like the fitting of the arms in these figures, nor the launching of MORE british soldiers... Where are the zulus?

I couldn't agree with you more:

The arms are looking dodgy...

If I need 2-3 times more Zulus (or in my case Pathans, as I like the NWF) to play a balanced game, doesn't it make more sense to FIRST make the native forces in plastic!!! I can understand if they want to make more money by forcing the consumer to buy large amounts of natives in metal, but by using that mindset, what would be the point of making anything in plastic!!

The arms notwithstanding, they look nice.

I assume that the Zulus and NNC will follow very quickly if not a simultaneous release.   8)

Though, let's be honest, guys, they WILL almost certainly sit on a pile for a while anyhow...........  :o

Makes sense to do the British first. They'll attract a lot more attention than Zulu's would and I for one welcome them with open arms (assuming they're good). The only other set I'm aware of are the Wargames Factory pile of dross so it's hardly a flooded market.
