How many clicks does a clix base have?
« on: 07 December 2011, 01:19:01 PM »
I'm investigating alternatives for keeping track of hits on units in Rules of Engagement. I figure a clix base with a corpse (or other fitting decoration) might be the ticket. I haven't the faintest idea what kind of numbers you can track with one of those, though.

Could it be that one of you esteemed gentlemen, by chance, possess the wisdom I seek?

Most of the ones I've seen have twelve.  I frequently pop out the dial and use that as a base and they've got twelve little tics on them like you'd see in a clock face.

Yep, a standard dial has twelve clix. No ordinary clix figure has more than 11 points of life though, because at least one is always reserved as the "dead" click.

There are also larger bases (3" diameter) that were made for artillery pieces. They have 26 clicks.

Hmm, I am not sure that would be sufficient Herr FKSN, at least not for Rules of Engagement. Or, we could try it out and see what happends?

Having Rules of engagement myself, I too have been wondering if there's an easier way than having a load of dice cluttering up the table. Good idea, will be looking forwards to seeing what you produce.

May be you could talk 'The Dial Dude' http://the-d-d.net/ into a special build?

He had a nice dial diorama base for sale but it's out of stock at the moment.

I just treated myself to a Fiskars circle cutter (Merry Xmas to me, on clearance at the local art store) with the aim of, among other things, doing some markers for various games, including dials to mark Shock in Mud & Blood.

I thought about sourcing some Clix bases - I'm sure some of my packrat gamer friends have spares stashed away - but the circle cutter will also be useful for other scenery projects and such.

That circle cutter does look useful.  I didn't see a source on the web for empty click bases.  I didn't want to spend too much time looking so I just purchased some cheap heroclixs from ebay as donors for my aircav inspired Saga fatigue markers.

Have you seen the latest release from Litko?

From the site:
The circle combat dials are available in six different colors. Each token dial is 1.5 inches- 40mm in diameter and feature three dials. The bottom dial features numbers from 00-100 and a naught symbol. The middle dial is numbered from 0-9 with a naught and infinity symbol. The top dial is used to show the single digit numbers by rotating the dial. The bottom numbers are shown by rotating the middle dial. With these two dials you can show all the numbers from naught (0-100) to infinity.
