Sculpting Masterclass

Date: 2nd June Ticket: £105.00 On sale: 07/03/2012 Age Limit: 16+

Come and spend a day in the Warhammer World Masterclass Workshop learning Green Stuff sculpting techniques, suitable for anyone with minimal experience. Design Studio sculpting experts will demonstrate how easily you can convert models of your own!

Sculpting legends Aly Morrison, Trish Carden and Aragorn Marks will demonstrate sculpting techniques that will allow you to transform a valiant Empire Greatsword into a repellent undead. These techniques can be replicated later on a wide range of models to include battle damage, wounds and any number of other ailments!

You'll be provided with an Empire Greatsword model which has been fully prepared for use, sculpting tools and all the Green Stuff you will need to practice the techniques being shown. Your ticket includes a hot lunch with your tutors, and tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day to keep you refreshed.

I've taken the plunge and signed up for this (though mine is in May) after reading the advert in White Dwarf. I'm really looking forward to it. Currently my sculpting skills are limited to filling gaps and the odd pouch to cover up things.

I'm curious if anyone else has been to anything like this?

I love the midlands mate, came up from Oxford. Much less prudish, cheaper way of life and easy to get anywhere in the UK!

I really want to go to this, but can't really afford it at the moment!  :(

A little bit too one size fits all I reckon. Showing you how to convert models of my very own?!??!? never? How do you do that then? ;) (I've got a feeling they'll be an emperor's new clothes pitch to the joys of converting, maybe I'm just being too cynical.

Also what numbers are the masterclasses limited to? Be a shame if you were one of fifty all lined up in front of a big plasma screen of the sculptors. ;)

I didn't know Aragorn Marks was working for GW these days. I wonder what he's sculpted for them?
Aly and Trish has been in the business forever. Aragorn was part of the Rackham team pretty much from the start. Miniature Mentor has a DVD with him. These guys oughta have a thing or two to teach just about anyone.

I'm guessing how much you get out of this workshop depends entirely on how much you're willing to pester the sculptors with questions. If you prepare by watching some online tutorials and try your hand at more advanced sculpting before the event, and bring your attempts for critique, you oughta get more relevant feedback.

Well, we'll see how it goes and I'll no doubt report back on here :)

I'm quite glad I'm not the only one who thought it looked a nice idea.

Wasn't have a dig at you, just when these things become corporate they can often go in favour of the company not the customer tha's all.

Anyway hog the Q&A's take stuff with you for them to critique and I'm sure you'll have a good time.

No, I totally agree with the numbers thing, I'd be very disappointed if it was a huge class.

As for the emperors new clothes, we'll just have to wait and see  :)

Twice in the past I got the opportunity to talk to a couple of pro's when I was starting out and I learnt a lot. Little tricks and tips that I still use everytime I try to sculpt something. I wouldn't underestimate what you could learn by speaking to a veteran. Still there's no subsitute for pushing some putty around. FKSN knows the score btw... good advice.

I have taken sculpting classes at GenCon(Indy) and Origins. Classes are also offered at ReaperCon. Any sculptor doing demos in dealer/vendor halls is usually more than happy to answer questions also.

I would have loved to attend to a class like this, perhaps not for sculpting, since I cant sculpt anything at all, but a painting class absolutely. I think its really cool that you are going, so we can get some first hand information about how things goes.
