Pinnacle miniatures steampunk
« on: 10 March 2014, 09:03:00 PM »
Hi, I bought a second hand 1998 Pinnacle miniatures, #1703 steam powered motorbike with sidecar and am looking to find if their steampunk style figures?   Does anybody know if they are still made by any manufacturer, I have been unable to find any information on this range of figures.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
regards Gradifan

You've bought the old Deadlands: Great Rail Wars steam velocipede. A great model which isn't made anymore unfortunately. Used to be manufactured by Jeff Valent miniatures.

It most certainly is 'steampunk' in a Wild West style if that was your question. There is a pinned thread in the Old West section that has quite a few of the figures in comparisons to others if you want to see what might be out there. Only second hand now though.

As an alternative, Reaper Miniatures produces Deadlands figures under liscense from Pinnacle. Not velocipede as yet but they do some other nice stuff that will fit in.
So many projects..... so little time.......

You lucky SOB. I can't find one of those anywhere. Where did you run across it?

All out of production unfortunately. A handful of pics of the pieces I've managed to pick up and others on the Lost Minis WIKI;

Shame that neither the velocipede nor the ornithopter are around any more.  Not so many years ago they came back on sale, Jeff Valent was selling them at HMGS-E shows in the US.  Unfortunately the price and my dislike of multi-part figures/kits stopped me from buying them.

Just 'gifted' the ornithopter to a lad in Texas; lovely piece, but a bit of a lead brick. Tobsen's resin dragonfly will be much easier to put on a stand, I'm thinking.

I have a unit of rocket blue bellies waiting appropriate use; I was just saying, in the day, they were decried for being way too big, which they were.

On occasion, scale creep can be a good thing.  lol

With regard to the Onithopter (I got one in an HMGS flea market, sealed box, etc.)...

I just opened the box, trimmed flash, etc., but noticed that it "seems" that the large/main body piece should be two -- one top (which I have) and one bottom, which was not in the box. Also, that rear part that appears wooden, should also have a bottom piece. For those that have this miniature, is this correct -- are there bottom pieces for the main body and/or the rear wooden section?

And yes, it is a very heavy item. It will be a b*tch to put on a flying stand (for smaller things like this I use telescoping antenna type of stand as for WWI planes).

Then mine was incomplete, as well.

However, I think it's just cast open at the bottom; if it'd been a solid pointed cylinder, never mind a stand, I think finding a TABLE to hold it would be the problem...  lol
