French for Retreat from Moscow 1812
« on: 25 April 2013, 09:05:06 AM »
Greeting fellows,

some time ago a friend of mine started to develop a ruleset for Napoleonic skirmish games during the French retreat from Russia in 1812. Fascinated by the idea of a small warband of winterly figures I converted some Victrix plastics with my humble hands:

(complete post here)

Finally I managed to paint those five guys and I'm rather satisfied with the result:

You'll find larger pictures of them on my blog: here

Comments here or there are welcome. I hope you like them.

Cheers
Stefan

Thanks a lot, mates!
It was real fun to do those tiny conversions and although I'm not very gifted with greenstuff they turned out rather well.

Thanks a lot for the nice feedback!    :)

Any how-to pictures available?
Unfortunately I didn't make any pictures while working on the conversions. To be honest I didn't expect that they would turn out well at all.    ::)

However it was pretty simple
1.) Clean and assemble the figures

2.) Prepare the workspace
Sounds as simple as it is. But make sure to have a clean area covered with wrapping film. We'll need that later.

3.) Prepare the putty
As you see I used Greenstuff.

4.) Roll out the greenstuff
Put some sprinkles of water on the film to prevent the greenstuff from sticking. Then roll it out just as you would roll out dough. Try to make the layer as thin as .5 mm to 1mm.

5.) Cut blankets and scarves
For the scarves cut thin strips and for the blankets squares.

6.) Apply them and shape them.

I hope that helps. Those of you who have worked with greenstuff already should know what I mean. It's as easy as it sounds. Otherwise I wouldn't have managed it I presume.   ;)

Maybe I'll create some line grenadiers or voltigeurs with my spare. Then I could take some step-by-step shots I you're still interested in it.

Cheers
Stefan

These look great. After seeing the Perry Retreat figures that Malamute mentioned I've been considering doing a similar project using the 'Song of Drums and Shakos' ruleset. Another pipe-dream no doubt, so I shall watch the progress of your project instead!
