Fantasy Shields...pics of the Second Batch...

Previously posted on Frothers...

From Left to Right: "Laughing Man", "Princess Guard", "Ogre", "Boar Demon", "Mother's Guard" and "Merchant". In the middle, at bottom, is the small "Skull Shield" which is actually meant for a unit of Tsolyani slingers from the island of Vra: "The Legion of the Clan of Joyous Vrayani" - is how the name goes, IIRC.

Edit: I forgot to mention the sizes: the small round skull shield measures 10mm across. the larger shields are about scutum sized - 20mm x 12mm, give or take.

Based upon these design sketches:

Those are BEAUTIFUL & highly IMAGINATIVE! I would imagine they'd paint up in a breath taking fashion. GREAT WORK!

Thanks! Sculpted by Federico Genovese. Initial inspiration is of course greek shield art, some vague memory of the old Citadel sculpted shields, and some glorantha art called, IIRC, the "Masks of Orlanth", or some such. But Federico did all the work!  :)

Love the shields. I bet these would look splendid on the arm of a warrior, or even on the wall of a castle. Please post some shots of the painted results when you've finished them.

The second batch...

They are as follows, from left to right, top row: "Serpent Guard" large oval, "Shouting Goddess", "Maiden Guard", "Horse Eater" and "Demon". On the lower row: "Serpent Guard" small round, "Succubus II", "Succubus I", and "Bat".

There is *technically* a third batch, but as I keep forgetting to send the sample on which they are to be based I can't blame Federico for not doing them!  :'(

To my mind, such as it is, the shields look to have their origins in India rather than Greece, but that is probably just moi. Be that as it may, the new batch are just as WONDERFUL as the first. BEAUTIFUL WORK!

I agree the female faces are vaguely oriental. I don't remember if I deliberately intended them for the Garden of Kama setting, or if it was more just "this would be cool"...

The whole process started about two years ago! A lot of things seem to take forever - one of the reasons I will probably never attempt a KS!
