Zulu Shields

Appreciate this is probably a stupid question, but would the inside of the Zulu shields mirror the exterior colour eg black/white or would they be a brown shade.

Plain hides.

As the pics show - just tan or brown inside. The shield is a single layer of stiffened ox hide, so the outside has the hair and the inside is the bare leather.

As Cubs said, the exterior still has the cow's hair in place (that's why they come in all sorts of colours and patterns), the interior, for obvious reasons, does not. Vintage shields from yesteryear can and will have aged to all sorts of hews. New ones tend to be a beige colour.
