New Tabletop Gaming magazine in WH Smith
« on: 20 June 2015, 05:22:05 PM »
I stumbled across a magazine called "Tabletop Gaming" in WH Smith yesterday.

It looks like it's just launched, and they have a facebook page here

It's £5.25, with 162 pages of reviews and interviews. There are a lot of card games, but also articles on Infinity, Dropzone Commander, Deadzone and a bunch of other wargame stuff - including a Kings of War battle report.

It looks like it's going to be monthly, so it'll be interesting to see what they do for future issues.

Not the cheapest magazine out there, and pretty much completely SF and fantasy oriented, but worth having a look at if you see a copy.

It looks like it's gonna be quarterly rather than monthly, at least by looking at Pocketmags.com. Either way, the cover looks very mainstream and flashy. I'll bet some video gamer's mother will pick this up by mistake  lol

It'd be nice to give it a read but honestly, I'd pretty much be paying 6 quid for a Kings of War battle report, which is a bit steep. Still, I will keep an eye out at the local magazine racks.

Also, "First looks at Guild Ball". Didn't that hit retail months ago?

Just looked at the inside back cover, and it does say the next issue will be available in September, so you're correct. Quarterly's not so bad, although three months is a long time for folk to remember that it exists...

WH Smith had actually put it in with the wargaming magazines, which is why I noticed it. I actually thought at first it was a misplaced video gaming magazine o_o

Nothing wrong with more magazines for the hobby, let's just hope this one lasts  :)

It seems to me that the sci-fi/fantasy mags never have a long shelf life (White Dwarf notwithstanding).

I hope they look at the smaller companies as well and not just the 'big boys'.

cheers

Thanks for the heads up - will pick up my copy over the next day or so. Got to love the commitment to putting out a new mag in the digital age.

Seen this pimped on Dakka, and yeah, people thought it looked too PC-gamey. :)

Still, the only WHSmith over here closed a few years ago. I wonder if Eason will bother with it?

I hope they look at the smaller companies as well and not just the 'big boys'.

Not just 'the bestest GW experience you can have outside GW!' Aye.
