Looking for miniature recommendations - SHODAN
« on: 28 March 2016, 04:32:56 AM »
So I was wondering what miniatures the forum would recommend to represent the baddie for system shock - SHODAN.

From what I remember, she never had a physical form.

But, probably this:

IIRC, it/she was only ever a face on a screen. But that WM fig is superb. Good find.

True,  I am still thinking of some cyberpunk Pulp Alley, an thought of SHODAN in place of the Spectre for the Vice Alley campaign.  I just thought of the AT-43 therian character Tiamat.

Yes, Tiamat was also what came to my mind, but her miniature form can't be reasonably used I think. Maybe it would be best to search for head and body seperately. The body should be easier to find, just some bodysuit-wearing cyber girl, maybe Infinity or Rezolution has something, or Hasslefree, or Reaper... For the head, maybe some Egyptian-looking headdress repainted, after all, the 3d model in the second game was very low-poly so what the heck ;)

How so? I think she would make for a interesting Terror final boss. Especially if you paint that big robot thing she's hanging from like a hologram/hard light projection. That would fit the whole teleportation trick of the spectre nicely.

I was thinking more along the lines of a classic miniature that stands on it's base. Tiamat sort of hangs in the air so I guess she could be made hovering around, but she never displays such powers in the games. then again, her physics form only appears when Cyberspace mixes with the real world, so who knows what she is capable of...

I don't know what a Terror boss is, sorry :)

I assume YPU means a Terror from Pulp Alley (which is a character class that can take on an entire group of models), which makes sense for her.

Yes in the Vice Alley campaign the Spectre is a very powerful Terror character. The Tiamat miniature is a lot like the Cortex Reaver baddie from the original System Shock, which was active in both real space and cyberspace.  So it would only make sense that a physical representation of SHODAN would be kind of like a Cortex Reaver.

YPU,
How would you recommend painting something as a hologram/hard light projection?

Ooh, good question. I'd say pick a solid colour, blue or red would work but I think green is best here. Start with a very dark base layer, do a "foggy" highlight up to the edge in a mid range brightness, maybe use a sponge for this to give it a particle effect look. Finally do a very hard and strong edge lines in a very bright paint.
