Grumbledook's Dwarf Crew for Frostgrave
« on: 11 January 2016, 08:41:15 PM »
Hi there all, I'm brand spanking new to this site and thought I'd introduce myself with a WIP of a Dwarf who I'm planning on being an Enchanter for my band of adventurers.

Now, I know he's got a sword, but he's enchanted it..... with the anvil on his back.... and the little hammer on his belt behind him. See... it all makes sense really.

Thanks for looking

Welcome from another relative newbie. Great start of your warband! Pretty colours! Rackham?

Yapp, that is Rackham. Metall. Dwarfs of Tir-Na-Bor. An Armourer. Really really really great Minis.
Looks great so far, nice starting post, sir.  :-*

I am planning on a dwarfen warband with an Enchanter too, using "animate construct" as some sort of "build something". Enchant weapon as sharpen weapon, and the like.

It's no problem talking to Your miniatures! Beware, when they begin replying.

Thanks for the feedback chaps. It is indeed a Rackham mini, I managed to buy loads of stuff at huge discounts when they sadly went out of business. On the plus side it does mean I've got lots and lots of their stunning models to paint (in fact this is the first one I've actually painted!).

My plan is to get the Dwarf gang painted first - there'll be a Dwarf maiden-type for the Apprentice, a selection of barbarian and thug types as well as some heavily armoured ones. A bit lacking in ranged characters though. I've also got a small and medium Rackham Cynwall constructs that, although delicate looking, could fit the bill for the delicate and sophisticated Dwarf handiwork - a bit of a contrast to the bulky living specimens. I'll be putting some unpainted shots of the figures up later tonight (hopefully).

Additional teams of intrepid explorers will include: Samurai Goblin faction, typical mercenary Human one (I think some of the models from Warmachine's Croe's Cutthroats would be great for this), and a clearly Evil Human one. I'm also planning on doing a large pool of Mercenary and Desperado types who can add additional character to teams.

So, I'm being fairly ambitious and hope to update reasonably regularly.

as for the constructs
There is a time witch (STE 008) from Werner Klocke, the time gnomes are just killer minis, but hard to come by singularly.
I have seen some nice constructs from a relatively new faction in Warmachine, but these come in packs of six, I think, and resin. I still hesitate to buy them, although I don't know, how much longer. ^^

Also there is a little "helper construct" from Confro itself, belonging to the dwarfs and some of the ThermoWarrior might go well as human sized or even bigger constructs too.

other gangs
I plan to mix my gangs as much as possible with sorts of humans from all sculpters. Mercenary crossbower, mercenary officer, molosser handler, Cadwallon in general. Quite some great minis. Really a shame they stopped.
Otherworld has some great adventurers, although surely more slender than Confro's

Asia gang
Yes, I need that for Ronin. Luckily I grabbed some meanwhile.

 :D

Some of the Freebooter's fate stuff looks great for a mixed human group (yayy, pirates looking for treasure in an abandoned city), and Warmachine is very attractive especially when it comes to the Convergence Reciprocators - the price is just a tad frightening though! - since they have a really clanky look to them.

I've taken a picture of what will constitute the rest of the gang - the boar mounted chap I suppose would count as some kind of beasty, although I guess this is just an excuse to paint him!

And also a bit more work on the man in charge.

Anyhow, a couple of busy days coming up but will hopefully get something new and a finished enchanter up soon.

Thanks for looking.

Oh, the Akishamelsomething constructs. Nice idea as well.

If Your playgroup agrees I'd use the rider in Frostgrave. Dogs have move 8, so why not a boar-rider? There could be some restrictions, like this rider (clearly a fighter, not a "mule") may carry no treasure, or something, and the price must be high to 80 or 100 with a profile like 50p-er. Then see what will happen.

Nice gang, like to see it painted!

Well I've finished the Enchanter, the first miniature I've finished for myself in a long time so it's a very nice feeling!

Next up is one of the barbarian types and a plate armoured heavy. The apprentice needs her topknot re-sculpting since I think it snapped off about 5years ago, could be a bit scruffy sadly.

Drachenklinge- good ideas in regard to the mounted figure, looking forward to getting started on it.

Thanks for looking.

I like him. Also Your choice of colours. In most cases I do not dare to use non-metall colours (I am not speaking of NMM, though) on my armours, but then again, seeing this I should really really try it eventually.

You plan on a colour-scheme or painting each with whatever comes handy?

Thanks for the positive feedback, it's very much appreciated. I wanted to have a go at some chipping effects on the armour, but I reasoned that ambition may outstrip technical ability so I may try it on the next model. I've begun the base layers for one of the sword and shield barbariany ones so I'll put some progress picture up soon.

I'm planning to paint them up in pretty much whatever comes to hand without any overall colour scheme, I'd quite like all the warbands to have a mix and match look so they can be as eclectic as possible - Heavy armoured Dwarf fighting alongside a Goblin ninja.... for cold hard cash? Hell yeah!
