B.M.A.P. Unholy Alliance Episode 3
« on: 03 January 2009, 10:27:33 AM »
Well I finally got my B.M.A.P. campaign back underway and we had a good game tonight.  We switched from a homebrew system based on No Limits to the Savage Worlds system and I think it was a great change.

Here is the report

Here are a few shots from the game.

I'll post a link to the battle report when I get it done.

Very nice looking.

Why Savage Worlds, if you don't mind my asking? I'm looking for a ruleset to use for Stargate SG-1 gaming. What drew you to Savage Worlds, and how do you like it?

The core rules cost 10 bucks for an actual book not PDF.  The system promised a RPG with combat that played out like a miniature game.  It was a generic system.  It wasn't a complicated system.

It pretty much delivered on the promise of being a mix of RPG and table top mini game.  The rules are hard to figure out until you start playing but pretty easy to follow even with only one game session.  Character creation is fast after you have made a character or two.  I'm pretty sure I've got a winner for the "Adventure Miniature" style game.

Why Savage Worlds, if you don't mind my asking? ... What drew you to Savage Worlds, and how do you like it?

Hope you don't mind me chiming in.  I tried Savage Worlds for a swashbuckling brawl last spring at a con.  It was easy to pick up and it was easy to generate characters.  Savage Worlds uses various sized dice from d4 to d12 based on ability in a given category.  Also, if the max number on a particular die is roled, then another die can be rolled to increase the total score on a hit roll.  So the odds are a bit harder to calculate than with the .45 Adventure type games, which seem to shift the odds in 10% increments on a d10.  Otherwise many features of Savage Worlds and .45 Adventure fill similar functions, but with different names for the function.  So it shouldn't be hard to borrow and translate between special skills in the two different systems.  I think the choice comes down to what type of dice system you prefer.
